My PC is finally moving up to my (rather small) room, and for the occasion I bought an audigy 2 and inspire 6700 speaker set, I kno they aint power monsters, but with a room of 4,5 by 3 metres (15 by 10 feet) power aint really a requirement, now, my main issue here is where do I place teh subwoofer, the floor is made out of vynil, but I dont really have a decent place to put it there, on idea would be in a shelf underneath my computer case itself (that one is not occupied, I can provide pictures if my explanation seems rather eh, mysterious ;)

the main concern is if this would couse an amplification because of the vibration, or other issues, or should I find a place somewhere on the floor ?

thanks for any help.

If it was me id want to keep it on the floor, you want to try to stop it vibrating as much as possible. Any energy spent in moving the sub is taken away from the actual sound energy output.

Or something to that effect, im very tired :moon:

The floor is the best place for a sub. You wouldn't want your computer desk\case to start shaking with the bass.

okay, thanks, does it matter where I actually put it, cous on diagrams I often see the sub just located somewhere, should I place it in front of me (on the floor ofcourse) or underneath my ebd, behind me, or just on the open floor behind me (very verry cramped room, every CM floor spared is usefull ;)

I have my subwoffer port facing a wall to bounce the bass around a bit. I have an older speaker system so thats the best for my Creative Soundworks setup. If yours works the same where as the port is what produces the bass then try the same thing if you can.

I have my sub underneath the drawers on my desk. there's a small space under there, and it was perfect sized for the sub. Sounds like you don't have this though. It kicks ass there, it is like right next to me but can't even see it, takes up no more space than was already being used.

You get stronger bass if your sub is close to a wall or especially in a corner. However, the closer you are to a wall, the less focused the sound is, meaning it will be muffled and "boomy". I usually like to keep my sub at least a foot away from any wall so that it sounds clear, and under my desk so that it's out of the way.

generally want the sub on something that will not allow it to resonate/vibrate. even old newspaper will do it. the closer to a corner the stronger the bass will be. most subs don't like corners very much. there will be a suggestion in the box with the speakers. usually about 6 inches or 240cm from the wall. you will have to try the available places that you have to see what is best for what you listen/play most and use that place. remember subs are not very directional so it doesn't make much difference as to where in the compass from you that you place it. the other speakers are a different matter. enjoy:music::Q
