I dont know where to post this, so dont get pissed at me. Which would offer more performence on a dual channel socket 939 system: 2x512 or 4x256?

For every stick of ram you add it lowers the speed which it can run. EE stuff which I don't know but have experianced. Get 2x512 single sided low latency if you can afford it.

Never buy 256 MB dimms.

Makes zero sense nowadays.

512 MB for lower end system; 1024 & up for higher end.

no, you want double sided ram (2x512mb).
doublesided ram will have 4 banks, single sided will only have 2 banks. (4 guns vs 2 guns)

🙂

geil ddr4400 512mb is great ram! its a little pricey, but it will last a LONG time and still be very high performance in a year, but lose its luster after ddr2 actually is worthwhile
