IIRC the deal was $79.99 - 30 IR - $40 MIR = $9.99 + tax on $49.99 for the Mad Dog 6-in-1 4x DVD Burner.

Wow, we're almost up to FAR DVD Burners ;)

Did you see the same deal online? or only looked in the store?

EDIT: I looked online and it says the rebate expires 9/30/2004. Did you see when it was valid when you looked at it in the store?

EDIT2: I looked at the rebate center and found the rebate and it expires OCT 10th. So you can get it online. But I don't know where to download the rebate at.

Is it the one mentioned in this thread?

If so, then the rebate is good for another week or two.

I got it for $4 (tax). Great deal.

This is just an extension of the earlier promo. If you bought it earlier, like I did, you'll need a different address to redeem an additional rebate.

Actually if you go to officemax rebate center, search the rebate from Mad Dog, you will find the rebate is valid thru 10/24. I believe it's OK.

I think this is only a -R/RW burner (no +).

Went to the Pasadena, CA store a little while ago and there was a group of people standing at the Customer Service desk all buying this drive. There was this tall Asian guy standing there and he kept saying "this is the last one! This is the last one!" He sounded really weird, almost demented.

Anyway, the people all bought their drives and cleared away, and then I proceeded to buy "the last one."

Just pulled my copy of the rebate from 4 weeks ago and it was the same. Not sure if there was a different one 3 weeks ago.

Yes, it is a "-" burner only.
The "SE" series (mostly in black) can burn both "-" and "+" .

Flexibility. Some players will play on + discs (my old apex ad-600), but in general -R discs are more compatible.

As well, some players like my Toshiba play neither + or -. Luckily I got a Liteon drive to use the bitset utility and can change to DVD-ROM and movies play fine.

Interesting that this is only a -R/RW drive, that seems a bit unusual. All the other drives are either only +, or dual-format, that I've seen.

Anyways, is there a bitsetting util or firmware that will burn as DVD-ROM for this drive?
