I don't know how this thread morphed into an SLI bashing thread. If you noticed, there are no SLI bridges on that setup because:
"Another interesting note is that this system doesn't need SLI, their application uses the NVIDIA CUDA programming model which makes all eight GPUs work in parallel. The researchers say they don't need SLI during a reconstruction as every graphics card communicates directly with the CPU, no inter-GPU communication is needed."
Tada!!

I doubt they are getting 100% cuz those PCIe lanes are x8 when there are 4 cards. Benchmarks showed that for ati cards x8 vs x16 made about a 10-15% performance decrease.

that is probably why they use a 350$ case with:
1 x 120mm rear fan
3 x 140mm Blue LED front fans
1 x 140mm Blue LED top fan
airflow is one thing it has in spades.

The thing I dislike about SLI, not to slag anyone who uses it, is just that it seems an extreme example of the way gfx cards power consumption, heat production, and noise issues are getting seriously out of hand.

The Belgian Ingrid Daubechy, princeton university ? tomography, but mostly famous because of her wavelets ? She worked together with one of my promotors ;-)
