4th fillup tonight for my 2012 Camry Hybrid XLE

JulesMaximus

No Lifer
Drove 501.7 miles and the tank was reading around 1/4 tank left so I filled up. It took 12.855 gallons of 87 octane at $4.099/gallon. Tank holds 17 gallons so I still had quite a bit in reserve but my mpg for this tank works out to 39.0 miles per gallon.

Average speed according to the computer is 21 mph.

I'm tracking my mpg on Fuelly.com and so far my average is 38.3 mpg over 1700+ miles.

I'm really pleased with this car!

Edit-Windows tinted today.

My car says average ~12.5mpg

Hahah..yeah, mine too - was 12.4 or 12.5 last I checked. My commute went from 13-14mi mostly highway to 2.2mi surface streets. Mpg plummeted (from a whopping 16, heh).

Man, if my commute was 2.2 miles I'd have bought a Lotus and just ride a bicycle to work everyday. :'(

I drive 3.5 miles each way back and forth to work and most of my other drives are pretty short as well. My jetta TDI is averaging 28mpg lol. I'm hoping that goes up some in the summer with summer fuel and the engine warming up faster. I did pull down 38.5mpg when I did a lot more highway driving for a tank. Going to have to start biking to work again when it warms up.

*falls asleep after hitting reply*

38.3mpg isn't bad. Just wish they could start making affordable performance hybrids as well.

Pretty good and I have seen some good prices on these recently. I really think every household if possible should have one ultra efficient vehicle for commuting and errands.

Meh, my old Cadillac got 26.7 MPG this week on a 250+ round trip.
50/50 two lane @60 mph & Interstate @ 75 mph.

(Best I ever got was one way from KY to Ft. Lauderdale last winter, 27.7 MPG when we pulled up to the Condo, all 75 mph Interstate)

It's a '97, still like new inside & out, luxury & decent mileage, FTW!
(pic is 7 YO, LOL)

I've got 36 mpg indicated by the trip computer. Of course that's with premium fuel (98RON).

But then I also drive like a lunatic and frequently red-line the engine, blip my downshifts, etc.

I hope those extra 2-4 mpg are worth it.

Really? What magical conveyance is this?

I was getting 20mpg out of my Maxima in my daily commuting. Best I could have hoped for was mid to high 20mpg out of any reasonably sized 4 wheel ICE vehicle. City mpg is what I look at since that is the type of driving I do. Highway mileage is a completely useless figure, a fairy tale figure I could never hope to attain in real life.

What car?

When new, I thought our Altima was getting 35 MPG. That's what the trip computer showed on a trip out to Ohio.
My wife mostly drives it and when I look at the computer it's mostly around 21 MPG. When I drive, it's closer to 28 MPG.
Conclusion: Wife has a lead foot.

My conveyance get between 35-45 depending on how I ride.

Got to be a bike. I looked exhaustively at various vehicles before deciding on this one and there is no car that gets anywhere near 36mpg, not for the type of driving I do, especially when "driving like a lunatic."

Suzuki Swift Sport.
Not reasonably sized, weighs just 1040kg, but the 1.6 100kW 4 cyl is nippy enough to make it enjoyable to around 80mph.
Only put around 5-6k miles on it during the last year, some city driving, some 120mph Autobahn trips, some spirited driving up alpine passes.

But also some commuting at 45-50mph, and with relatively little traffic.
It's not like I keep it in third for those speeds..

Also, I'm not sure if the converter I used calculated the correct mpg. For SI-reference, the readout says 6.5l / 100km.

During cruising at 50ish miles, the actual consumption is around 4.5-5l/100km, so the offset is from the more engaging driving the sport badge commands.

Of course, from 60 mph, the Altima will probably thrash the Swift in acceleration. It does get a bit sluggish above 85.
Off the line, the low weight helps. It's very similar in performance to a standard Mini Cooper, or a Twingo Sport, but better equipped for the money.

Oh, and when I'm not whipping it, I tend to drive quite conservatively, so obviously that helps on the average. But the mood does get me most of the time. The noise in second gear from 4k to 6krpm is just such a nice drone, without the fakery of a tuned exhaust.

When I was in Germany, I had a Chrysler Simca. 90 MPH was top speed.
In fact, I never drove anything nice there.
Some mini van and these:

Got the windows tinted today. Looks better IMO. Still haven't fallen asleep... I don't know what you people are on about really.

euro gallons are 20% larger than US FYI. There is no gas-only car that gets 36 mpg city without being unbelievably small and underpowered; certainly nothing in the US market comes close to that. Even the smallest cars here with the least power are upper 20's MPG in the city.

Toyota hybrid tech is the world's best. Jules's car has 200 HP and is a mid-size sedan that is rated at 43 mpg city. When comparing size and performance hybrid or electric is unbeatable, even diesel is humiliated.

I drove a hybrid Camry a few years back. It was quite quick but the electric motor was terribly slow to kick in, a problem now resolved in this car, the Prius, and I assume all Toyota hybrids now.
