4K LED TV prices sure did drop...

Looks like I'll be visiting TigerDirect nearby and take a look at this UHDTV. Hopefully they have some 4K videos playing. :awe:

Only 5 of the 32 TD stores have them (in stock) all in IL.

most 4k thats 10k+ are way larger than 50" my next tv will be 70+ inches, of course i would wait till they get down to 2-3k before i buy one

prices are plummeting..Sony announced their prices, their 55" 4k UHDTV is 'Only" $4999. hopefully prices will continue to drop to around what their high-end HDTVs are selling for now (~$3500) within a yr or two.

SD thread was saying this was only 30Hz @ 4k.

For those that are interested in this tv for games, try setting your tv/monitor to 30Hz and playing a PC game. Horrible.

I bought my 720p screens 3 years ago and still paid less for them than what similar 720p models sell for now. I think I'm going to stick with Panasonic and avoid the cheap screens. I don't fear issues with the screen going bad on these lesser known name brands, but the power supplies failing.

Toshiba, Akai, and others had a large number of power supply failures a few years back that caused massive shortages of replacement parts. I only stick to names with good warranty history....I'd hate to buy a TV and be told it will be 3-6 months for a part to fix it. *Sony is on my 'do not buy' list for other reasons.

I am surprised these things even exist but I am sure they will one day because Samsung needs a new reason for us to purchase a new TV. I think 1080p is just fine. If these do catch on, expect a new disk format too because the movie studios need a reason for us to rebuy their movies too.

1080p sucks on any decent sized TV. There's more of a reason to buy into 4k than 3D.

Movies are going to be going to SD cards and no longer be on optical media.

I am guessing it was 15 years ago but I took my wife to see a plasma TV. It was $18k and IIRC, 27".

The first Plasma I bought around 8 or 9 years ago was $8000 for a 52". Even 5 years ago I bought a 46" LCD for over $4000.

And these units are already dead and collecting dust in my basement (actually most of the Samsung LCD and Plasma TVs my family has ever bought are now dead).

Oh well you live you learn, buy later to save a ton of money, and don't ever buy Samsung.

For those looking there's a 50" 4K LED NON name brand SEIKI TV for $1,299 at Tigerdirect at this moment...

😵 Impossible. 4k TVs were $25k last I saw.

This must be a fake, or things just got interesting.... Is 4k really knocking on our doorstep so soon?

Naw not a fake, but wish there would be a review and analysis of where they get the 4k panel. AVSforums/Slickdeals have very little info other than they are from China and have a plant in Michigan.
