4GB vs 8GB (Laptop)

I have my laptop which I use for light gaming (considering it's 5 years old) and just productivity overall. Will it be worth it to upgrade to 8 GB of ram? It's only 50 dollars on newegg and I really don't feel like getting a whole new PC just for light gaming.
This is what I was looking at:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145281

I'm currently using, according to Piriform Speccy:
DDR3 Dual Channel Ram DRAM Frequency is :533(Guessing? as it's showing current actualy frequency and not rated)
Timing is: 7-7-7-20
CL/tRCD/tRP/tRAS
Just a small upgrade I'm considering to tide me over and still make my laptop useable as I really don't see why I need a whole new laptop. All I ever use it for is browsing. It's got a terrible battery but I move it, use it in one location and then plug it in in another and I can still play Dota and LOL if I feel like it or other games on lower graphics.

Thanks for the help!

You'd be better off putting that money toward a new/fresh OEM battery.

Haha, I'm ok with the battery though. I pretty much use the laptop as a portable desktop. Considering it's a P-7801u it's not really that portable to begin with. Once I sit down at a table I really don't notice I'm even on a laptop. I just am considering the upgrade because I really don't want to get a new laptop, but constantly notice I'm at 50%+ ram. If I load up too many tabs of chrome I'm slow as hell and forget gaming and having tabs up.

I was just wondering the performance difference when gaming with tabs/background stuff running and just being able to use my computer more efficiently better would it help? Was thinking of the X9100 upgrade that people talk about as well but that's more for gaming as this is just for general usability I'm wondering. I'm upgrading a lot of things just wondering if this is an upgrade I should do. Already bought a new switch, getting a new powerline ethernet adapater as well second I get a response to that thread, and some other things in the works too haha.

First of all, can we assume you are running a 64-bit OS?
Second, if you are running 64-bit Windows 7, 8 GB is where it's at, in my opinion. Everything is snappier for me, 4 vs 8.

If Windows 7, don't make the decision based on memory usage number alone. When you upgrade, you will notice that your memory usage also goes up (in number, not percentage), but that is a good thing. This is one reason we like Windows 7 so much.

Windows 8 64bit.
Ya I know people hate windows 8, but I'm used to it at this point. I actually kind of like it now. Will it make the same difference in Windows 8 as it does Windows 7?

Should. Very similar in memory usage, from what I understand. I am sure Metro will like the extra RAM too.

If you think you can use the ram, why not.

Ok thanks. I'm not even sure why people dislike Windows 8 so much. I rarely interact with the new UI at all. Besides hitting the Windows key, and typing the application's first 3 letters and hitting Enter that's pretty much all I see of it. If I added the shortcuts to my desktop I'd never even see the UI but I like my backgrounds =D.
Windows 8 feels faster to me than Windows 7 too. I

So what type should I get?

Part Number: CT2KIT51264BF160B
Module Size: 8GB Kit (4GBx2)

Both are same price and free shipping 2-3 days. Only benefit of Amazon is it comes with all the other stuff I ordered haha but I don't really care. What you think?
@Gillbot
I trust ya'll a little more than I trust myself. I didn't keep up on how hardware effected games and OSes over the past 5 years. I haven't started reading reviews again until recently. College for me involved very little PC usage which isn't normal for me haha. That's a lot of ram though. Have you used 8GB / 4GB of ram recently for reference?

The Corsair has better default timings, but it really doesn't matter. You won't notice the difference. I would probably go with Amazon, as they ship faster than Newegg nowadays.

Thanks for the help. I went with Amazon. I want it fast haha. There's a stack of amazon boxes coming over the next few days anyway. I dunno what my house would do without them haha. It's almost possible to live now aday without leaving the home except for work.
