4GB Thumb drive - 19.95 shipped, 8GB - $31.95 shipped

This appears to be the same as the 8 gig flash drive recently on sale at supermediastore. See this thread:

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...AR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear

The picture on their web site shows "My Flash" on the unit, and so does the one I purchased from SuperMediaStore. It is slow to the point of being unusable.

This is the slowest device I have seen since the death of floppy drives. I wouldn't have believed that a memory-based device could be this slow.

On Edit: Let me put this in more readily understandable terms. This device will write 2 MBs per second. That is with a single large file. Using small files, it will be slower. Just as an example, lets take an .ISO image of a DVD. The size is the maximum for a single layer DVD, 4,700,000,000 bytes. I can write this with a DVD burner in approximately 5 or 6 minutes. With this flash drive, it will take approximately 39 minutes. That's right, 6 to 8 times slower than a DVD burner.

Crapola. That's plain unacceptable for a flash drive. I'm going to cancel this order if I can or refuse shipment.

I got one of the free one giggers last year on a A-Data RAM promo and, yes, it is quite slow.

YesBuy's lifetime ratting on Reseller's is only 3.8.

I can confirm mine is about this slow (2MB per second write speeds). Reading is 20MB/sec about though, so maybe I'll find a good use for it.

Dell carries the Kingston 4GB for $27+$5 shipping. Buy the $25 off $25 purchase from eflay or couponcraft#com for $1.70 or less. Final price is under 8 bucks.

I need a thumb drive for storing MP3's to use in my car stereo. If it can read 384KB/s and it doesn't draw more than 500ma that's all I need, I don't care if it takes a day to copy 8GB to it...hmm...might jump on the 8.

If the read speed is too slow, your player may produce hiccup sound. For an audio file, it may be OK but video replay may not be desirable. 🙂

Well for reading MP3s even the slowest flash drives currently available should be able to handle this no problem. MP3 max is only 320Kbps (40KBps, or 0.04MBps). You'll probably be hard pressed to find a modern flash drive that won't read at least a few MB/s.

I'll cross that bridge when I have a head unit that plays video. 🙂

Got them to cancel my order in time yet I still notice that they have not reverse the charge. Yes folks, this vendor charge right away without even waiting for shipment. I've sent them an email and no response for a week now. Avoid Yesbuy.
