4GB Hitachi Microdrive = $499.00 (stand-a-lone drive)
4GB Creative Muvo $299.00 (uses 4GB Hitachi MD)
4GB Apple IPOD $239.00 (uses 4GB Hitachi MD)

So basically, you can buy a plain 4GB MD for $500.00 or get a 4GB MD with Super Fancy packaging for $240.00! Hmmmm, I'll take mine with fancy packaging please ;).

Noticed from this thread: Found Here which contains links to images & instructions.

The new miniIPOD uses the same Hitachi drive. So you can get the drive for $240 if you want to open a Mini.

I'd also like to know. I have a 1GB Microdrive right now that I could swap into it and give it as an MP3 player to my brother while getting 4GB for my Toshiba e755.

i am also in the market of large microdrive for my new digital camera. I am currently trying to pick between a 1GB CF card or a 2.2GBMicrodrive CF type II card. The 2.2GB microdrive is around the same price as the 1GB CF card. What do you guys think? Battery life is not a problem since I mostly carry 3 battries for me.
the brand I am looking at is called Magicstor. My friends recommand this to me and I find an online place to sell this microdrive cheaper than ebay auction.

Thanks for reading,
Alex

The 2.2 Gig drives (by Magicstor I think) have apparently had some problems. I'm wary of them. The 4 giggers seem great.

JDCOOK: thanks for replying my message. Can you give me more information regarding to the problem of the drive? It is because I have lots of friends (yeah, u join an online group of photography and PDA. A few months later, you suddenly know more than 400 people and they all trying to figure out which to buy for their new digital camera and PDA.)

links will be a big plus.

i've heard that the magicstor 2.2gbs have had some power issues, drawing too much power, or being unable to start up due to load issues. run a google search for more info.

Arent microdrives 1.8" and the new 4gb drive in the ipod 1"?

MicroDrives are 1". Trust me, IPod Mini uses the Hitachi 4GB drive.

Cnet says it's the Hitachi drive in the iPod mini.

so isn't the apple ipod mini a better deal to get that microdrive or do they use another type of storage?

I don't think they use Microdrives. Small drives and microdrives are not the same thing. For instance, the Muvo2 and Nitrus use 1.5 GB Cornice drives. They are small but not considered Microdrive (developed by IBM, in Compact Flash format).
