So anyhow I am up late building this PC.

Intel E6750 Link

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Link

I found the following ram

G.Skill 4gb(2x2gb) CL 4 2.0V - 2.1V 4-4-4-12Link
154.99

or

G.Skill 4gb(2x2gb) CL 5 1.8V - 1.9V 5-5-5-15 Link
144.99

Why oh Why oh Why are the 2gb kits the same price

G.SKILL 2gb(2x1gb) CL 4 2.0V - 2.1V 4-4-4-12 Link
139.99

I understand I can overclock the 2gb kit probably better than the 4gb kit.

Speaking primarily about performance, in video editing and gaming, what should I benefit from more 4gb slightly overclocked or 2gb overclocked to the moon?

This is a toss up for me should I just save some cash and get one of the $65 run of the mill 2gb kits?

What OS are you running? Kinda makes a differance, since you won't be able to use all 4gb with 32bit windows..

It figures! I just ordered the G.Skil 2x2GB with 4-4-4-12 timings yesterday morning from Newegg for $169 and today it's $15 cheaper. LOL

I am no expert but I would think that having 4GB of ram would be more beneficial for you. Especially considering you work with video editing.

Call Newegg and ask them to adjust the price.
They will..

You won't get full use of the ram then, you'll be limited to somwhere between about 3gb and 3.5gb, the amount of memory on your video card can actually affect this limit.

Thanks for the tip! When I called them they said that they only guarantee the price up to the time the item ships. But as a 1 time courtesy they refunded me the $15. :)

You can get as few as 2.3GB when using a 32-bit OS. Mine only recognizes 2.27GB b/c I have 2x 7950GT 512MB.

So best bet would be: get a good pair of (2x1gb) sticks that can oc well, since I'll be getting a E6750 that has been known to hit 3.2ghz

What are you, some G.Skill addict? You can get 2x1GB kits for $50 or so at NewEgg...

I'm currently running this set of G.Skill and getting an amazing overclock of 3.37Ghz on a vanilla Asus P5B with a C2D E6400 (stock speed 2.13Ghz). I don't remember what anything in the BIOS is set to ATM as it been running rock solid for so long at this speed but I can tell you I spent little dollars and am getting great performance out of them.

Just to add my own findings / experiences:

I'm running two Q6600-G0's @ 3GHz.

One has 8G G.SKILL 5-5-5-15 DDR2-6400 from Newegg.
G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail $145 / 4GB
It's running fine for me around 440MHz at standard volts/cycle timing.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820231122

One has 8G SuperTalent T667UB2G_M DDR2-667 from eWIZ
That's working well at 333MHz stock cycle timing/volts/MHz.

I think it's a "no brainer" for me to run a 64 bit OS and use 8GB, but then
I do memory heavy technical work.
4GB is a good amount for a general main heavily used desktop/gaming/
engineering system for either 32 bit or 64 bit OS. I wouldn't build a system
with only 2GB for demanding uses anymore, not with memory at these prices,
as has been said, you can get quality 4GB kits for about the same prices of
sime similar 2GB kits, and that way you have spare DIMM slots if you ever need
6GB or 8GB.

I've used Vista64 bit and it seemed to work "pretty well" in that
I had no real "extra" problems because it was 64bit vs the 32 bit version of
the same. That said, I don't like Vista much in general, so I just run LINUX 64 bit
and would run Vista / XP dual boot or in a VM if/when I need to.

The most recent memory 'deals' I found are as follows; I think the
eWiz memory and the Fry's Patriot memory are very notably good
choices for DDR2-400-PC2-6400 memory.

I like the PC2-8000 G.SKILL set from Newegg but I really don't see
much need for paying $155/4GB extra for 500 MHz rated memory versus
$100ish/4GB for the PC2-6400 rated memory; the performance difference
isn't worth it unless you have a new 45nm Penryn/Wolfdale/etc. type
CPU that you expect to clock well over 440Mhz.

So my latest purchases are the Partiots and SuperTalent memory below.

http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=T8UB2GC5&show=p
$52/2GB single DDR2 unbuffered DIMM; buy 2 for 4GB, 4 for 8GB.
