No thanks. I refuse to [BUFFERING...] install any Real products on my computer after I [BUFFERING...] discovered how crappy their RealOne media player is. Damn program [BUFFERING...] tried to take over my computer by [BUFFERING...] placing short-cuts everywhere, continually nagged me with upgrade offers, etc.

I would, if the songs were encoded in plain MP3. I don't mind paying, I just don't like all the restrictions and the hassles. I won't share the songs with anyone else, but I do want to have them in my car, when I jog, and play them at home on my CD playe, etc. without aquiring seperate licenses for each.

And yes, I refuse to install any Real software on any of my computers!

Myself and most of the other people on here, I believe, wouldn't BE PAYED 49c/song to have their music collection in Realplayer formats. It's that bad.

As many of the people have posted above, Real software needs to get real before they will get any tech-savvy people to use their service...

my friend really likes Rhapsody, says its well worth the price, I have an old realplayer, like 5.0 or something that I installed and it works allright, still bugs me to register when it starts up, but that isn't very often. The big thing is if harmony does survive the lawsuits etc, they will be in a great postion to license the software, once again leaving apple out.

Wait, so this offer is not for MP3 songs?

What's the place you all would recommend for legally downloading high quality (320) MP3 songs, please?

Their store says:
"Enjoy pristine digital music encoded at 192 kbps - the best on the web "

And supported devices are MP3 players, sooo. 192 MP3s is what they're selling?

1. Yes you have to install RealPlayer to download but that's nothing a 2 minute drive image Windows reinstall can't fix, once you get the MP3s (if they're MP3s).

2. What's this about 192 being "the best on the web"? What, no one sells 256 or 320 kbps MP3s?

I h8 real player :|

although, I am a fan of iTunes. I don't like not being able to burn an mp3 disc from protected AACs, however. No point in getting an mp3 cd player for the car without that feature. Although, if I bought a CD-RW disc and kept burning and ripping...nah, too much work ;)

I have a portable a shock resistant CD player that plays MP3s. *A lot* of MP3s can fit on inexpensive regular erasable CDRWs or CDRs.

Who has 100% legal high quality MP3 downloads?

If you buy the Pro version (19.95), you can convert their RAX files to secured MP3 files. I've used Walmart Online Music, Napster (legit), iTunes, MusicMatch and now Real. IMHO it appears that Real has a much larger variety of music and more older titles (along with the latest). And for .49, it's a great deal. Don't know how long this price will last.

All these legit web sites,

Do they offer the kind of MP3s that people can get by simply converting their music CDs into MP3s or are these some kind of 'locked' files etc.

I'd like to purchase specific songs legally

1. in MP3 format, and I'd like that
2. MP3 format to be at 256 kbps or 320 kbps.

None of these sites offer clear answers to those two questions.

WHY!?

you can download them in RAX, then burn the songs to CD (via RP) then rip the audio CD to mp3 ;)

Or you can also not waste hours of your time to save $0.50 per song. I don't know about you but my time is much more valuable than that to me.

So nobody knows of any legal US site that offers legal MP3s at 256 kbps or 320 kbps, even if they are secured MP3s?

I can't even run Real Player on my system. I installed it, and it just refuses to run. I clicked on the Real player icon, and it shows up the splash screen for real player, and then nothing happens.

I tried to uninstall it and the uninstaller tells me that it fails with components missing. Well, I would stay away from Real even if they offer better deals..

Being a user of Rhapsody it has one serious benefit over Itunes. With Rhapsody you can listen to ANY album in it's entirity, streamed, that is in their database. No 30 second clip crap to see if you like a song .. listen to the whole song or the whole album before you buy.
