4890 VaporX for $205

Too bad they don't have a 4870 1GB in that link too. I imagine most of the performance increases you'll get will be due to the extra memory, at least more so than another 100MHz on the core.

At any rate, that's a great performer for just over $200, and the Sapphire aftermarket cooling is usually very good. Now that I went to a 26" monitor I kind of want to upgrade. 🙂

It's not so much the quantity of ram as the type since the 1gb uses GDDR5 while the 512 does not.

Nope, Only 4850 uses GDDR3, all 4870 and 4890 derivatives have always used GDDR5.

Yea, I assure you my 4870 512MB card has GDDR5. 🙂

I actually just ordered a couple of these. It's worth noting that they seem to keep alternating the prices. It's been jumping back and forth between this price and ~$230 all week, but fairly regularly. So if it jumps back up in price just wait several hours and check again.

I was looking to upgrade to the 4890 but I'll wait for the price slash.
