4890 fan speed control?

I picked up a powercolor PCS+ 4890..I like it but the idle fan speed is pretty loud.

I wasnt expecting this..my last card was a 9800GT and very quiet at idle..on the other hand the GT idled at about 73C according to rivatuner, while this 4890 idles at 51C. I'd be willing to trade off some heat for quiet at idle.

Which bring me to another question, whats a safe idling temp? I'm assuming 60-70 is fine.

Anyways I'm looking for a fan control..the one in ATI CCC had no effect at all. I turned it down to 20% and nothing changed. Either it doesnt work on this powercolor, or the fan was trying to keep the GPU a certain temp, or something.

Anybody know a good simple fan control, and have tips for what to set it?

The one in CCC, Rivatuner, GPUtool all have fan control. Temps are fine.

Well it has a three wire header so the fan can be controlled, but is likely set in bios at a certain minimum level.

As Sylvanas said, temps are good. You should consider yourself lucky to idle at a decent temp. Nice cooler, in a well ventillated case I bet load temps are good too.

Programs that fix fan speed usually overide bios settings but maybe CCC isn't? I imagine that fan would be loud north of 2500 rpms.

Check gpu-z, see what idle fan speed percentage and rpm is. So long as it's not stuck at 100%, I recommend adjusting your speaker volume knob clockwise.. ;)

ATI Tray Tools has the simplest configuration that I've found for the 4890. You can set the fan in 10 steps from cool to hot. Rivatuner is similar, but doesn't seem to work for me (greyed out).

I have mine set for 34% fan speed and the noise isn't too bad. It idles at 48°C.
