The problem is that even if, let's say, accelero S1 would be compatible with your card, you would have 200W of heat thrown inside your case. And you also have the Xigmatek S1283 and that means that all the air that the S1 is heating to keep your GPU cool, will be first sucked into your cpu cooler. That would translate into higher temperatures for your cpu and should not be a problem as long as you keep the quad at stock clocks. One you get the idea to overclock it, then you might be heat limited at some point, because your Xigmatek is now using 50 C hot air to cool the cpu, when once, when the stock card cooler wasn't replaced, it used 35 C air to cool the cpu.
It's a rough estimate of the issue, but you might want to consider this if you think about changing the cooler. 4890 is a very power hungry card and quite all the cards on the high end market now, are like that. Gone are the days when we had 100< watts videocards that didn't affect your case temp by much, or with good ventilation, not at all. These behemonts we have now, are really space heaters, no doubt about it and we should not underestimate their heating abilities.

Rifterut like I said above you have the same card. Mine is overclocked and that is the temps I'm getting. I don't think I got lucky with the card because I'm seeing a lot of people OC'ing them to 960/1000....... anyway back to temps. Just overclock it with the fan at 40% or auto and see what you get. I think you are will see you were jumping the gun. The 4890 run way cool for what you are getting out of it.

There are plenty of RAM/VRM sink kits out there some beefier than others. Either moving the 120mm fan a bit off center towards the VRMs would help get more airflow on them or strapping 2 fans on there if possible. Either way IMO it will work fine.

MAJOR UPDATE!!

Ok first off the sound was not all the fan on the 4890, i think it was the power circuit on the card struggling to keep the card running with a lack of power from my AC 550RF PSU. I know this because as soon as i replaced it with a Corsair 850tx it was alot better. The fan is still loud but only 60-70% as loud as i thought it was before, now its about as loud at 40% as my 4830 was at 80%. Its funny that the PSU made the vid card sound like it was making a fan whining noise, maybe the lack of power was just making the fan spin faster for whatever reason.

That said i have started to OC this thing, running now at 950/1000 and it hits 85c with the stock fan profile when useing the ATI artifact tool after 30 min, if i set it to 40% it hits 75-77c. This is acceptable to me i think i will leave it at 40% fixed. Thank you for all your input guys! Good to know I wasnt nuts thinking it was too loud man you should have herd it with my old PSU hooked up it was bad. Two thumbs down for AC PSU's.

Should also note for all you vista only users, 40% fan speed is still loud, too loud for desktop use when the card is idle and not gameing IMO, im leaving it at 40% fixed with the CCC because i only use vista for games and use linux for desktop apps and everything else and obviously when in linux the stock fan profile is in use because i do not think you can change it in linux, so when i boot linux its nice and quiet.

Thanks again guys! Maybe i will still upgrade when there is a dedicated cooler designed specifically for 4890 that takes 120mm fan on the market.

I just got my 4890 today (sapphire) and I bumped my fan up to 33% and I'm idling around 50c as we speak (room temp is 73f) and it's not loud to me at all. Is there a temp log for CCC? I haven't stressed it very hard or very long but I haven't seen my temps go above 70c

I do plan on getting a water block and adding it into my loop sometime soon just undecided on what block I want to get. Anyone had any experience with the swiftech 4870 block on the 4890? The web site says its compatible with my card but wondering if getting the EK or DD block might be a better bet.
