4870

Hello.

I have been interested in video graphics memory. I play memory intensive games, some of them older games. After reading about various graphics cards, I was wondering whether the 2gb memory on the 4870 is actually utilized matched with the 256 interface? In the past it seemed all reviews pointed that 1gb and over is unnecessary as they were not fast enough to make use of all the extra memory.
With ddr5 would a 2gb memory card be a decent purchase?

Thanks.

I did not know there was a 4870 that had 2GB, do you have a link? who makes it? does it show any improvement over the 1GB version? i bet it would do well in AA in older games.

Apart from GTA 4 and probably Crysis, the extra 1 gb on 4870 2gb doesn't give any performance bonuses in games. I wouldn't pay more for it over 4870 with "only" 1 gb.

Sapphire makes a 2GB version.

thats pretty cool, if it actually does anything for performance. Cant wait for the benchmarks.

It's already been reviewed. Just do a google search for 2gb 4870.

i just did, it seems like a complete waste of money, in some bench's the 1Gb version was even faster. unless they sell it for less than $10 more than the 1GB i dont see how they can think they are going to sell these.
