4870 OCCT artifacts

Just tested my card last night with OCCT v3.1.0 and even with shader complexity on default (0) I received white dots in just a couple of seconds, even though temperatures were bellow 60 C. Ran ATi tool afterwards and a little dot appeared on the cube as well. Restarted, tried the same thing and OCCT still gave me artifacts, while ATi tool didn't, this time.
I'm running it stock clocks and I don't have issues in games and even furmark runs fine, but I feel that something is not normal with these artifacts. Does OCCT has a specific problem or is my card approaching death?

But it only does it in OCCT. I'm afraid that if I RMA , they'll send it back saying it has no problems, after they've tested in only a game or something like that.

How much time do you have left on your warranty? You could also try running OCCT with underclocked VRAM to see if it still artifacts.

I have 2 years and something. I'll try the Vram thing.

EDIT: Well, your were right,at 840 mhz, it doesn't artifact anymore. So it looks that the vram is starting to die on me, huh? Funny thing is that with GPU tool, even after 45 minutes, there were no artifacts or anything. Maybe OCCT gpu thing has something with my card? 🙂

Aww that sucks to hear man. I would RMA it, but be sure to notify them that it artifacts in OCCT so they hopefully won't send you back the same card or another card that they haven't tested in OCCT.

Do you think they will really test it in OCCT? I have doubts about that. I also have to buy an 8400 gs or something, until they'll fix it for me. Dam it. 🙁

Are you planning to buy one of the 5800 series cards right around launch? If you are then you could possibly run the 4870 with underclocked vram until then or something; certainly beats using an 8400gs or the likes. On the other hand, if you have plans to sell the 4870, its value might be quite a bit lower when the 5800 series comes out (and after the time it comes back from RMA).

I will probably go for a 58XX card, but it depends a lot of the price it will have. I don't know what to do. To wait or not to wait!? The card doesn't bother me in games, for the moment. In time it will probably degrade further. I don't know. 🙁
