4870 512 vs 4870 1gb in crossfire

Is there any reviews showing the difference in performance, because i am considering going from the 4870mb to an X2 or maybe just getting another 4870 512...

i know the 512 can get left behind but i do want to know could it be a better option to go for another card..

I would guess that the only times you need more performance than one card can offer is at high resolutions. At high resolutions the 1GB cards do better. That might kind of answer your question.

I'd just get a X2 instead of Xfire 2 cards.

I have to agree here, I am just not a fan of SLI and Xfire.

The X2 is CrossFire on a single PCB.

for clarity is below correct ?

CrossFireX = 2 cards (ATI)
SLI = 2 cards ( nVidia)
X2 = CrossfireX on one Card

The X2 is CrossFire on a single PCB.

Running dual GPU's on a single PCB is not the same as running 2 different PCB's 2 GPU's and then having to use a mobo that is xfire ready, along with a jumper to connect them. So to me thats not really running a xfire setup, its running a dual GPU solution.

^ yeah it is different. With the X2 you won't hit the issues of the P45 chipset running xfire in x8 mode since it has the PCIe bridge right on board.

That's actually a good point, it's 22 inch, but i don't see how that relates to the topic..
