i dont really need help with this, i just want to vent some frustration. ive got a am5x86 133 which had a 130mb seagate (c) and a 170mb wd (d) .. MONTHS ago i formatted the 170mb for ext2 and installed lilo on it for a server/firewall box, but i moved that hd into my am5x86 just because.. now i want to put it in an i486sx25, probably to give to some relative for whom a 486 would be some great thing.. so anyhow. stupid fscking lilo is STILL on the mbr!

so i try dos 6.22 on the am5x86, and fdisk /mbr.. put it back in the sx25, boot up..

LILO 21.7-5 Loading linuxEBDA too big
.

so i try recreating the partitions blah blah.. same deal. feh.

%#!@%. the am5x86 has this gimpy 2x cdrom which opens and closes itself, and i dont have dos drivers for it.. so i cant boot off a win98 cd and try the fdisk from that.. so i try putting it in my k63-333, and it doesnt even SEE the drive.

*grumble*

Download the format utility from the HD manufacture, this will low level the drive

ya and do what with it? the only two systems that can read this drive dont have disk drives.. i dont feel like taking my one working drive out of here just to do that ;(

i wonder if the other 486 has a llf in the bios ..

all these things pretty much need a working disk drive .. if i had one of those i wouldnt hav a problem.. heh.

as for llf, i know doign it on a modern drive will screw it, but i thought it didnt hurt older drives.. (170mb wd not old enough? :p)
