4850 on a 680i board!?

So I have an 8800GTS 640MB on a 680i mobo right now and am considering the upgrade to either a 4850 or a 4870 when it comes out.

Any forseeable problems with this mix. I figure i'll start off with 1 4850, then when I want to make the jump to crossfire, I'll buy a new mobo and another 4850 / 4870.

Am I better off with nVidia? Does switching sides justify the cost?

Thanks

For single video cards it doesn't matter if you use NV or Intel or AMD mobo.
