Actually, I was thinking the same thing. Could it be that UT3 just isn't as popular as its predecessor?

Honestly, I was so into UT2003 and then UT2004. I played the demo of UT3 but it made me nauseous. I don't know why... could be the movement. I could play Half-Life 2 but then when I went back after a while it made me nauseous to play.

It could be me, it could be a lack of a good video card, but I'm sure my card was good enough for the original Half-Life and that made me real sick.

It's probably best I don't waste all that time playing games anyway.

9800GTX-level power draw in a single slot card is a bad idea.

I'd wait for an improved-HSF version.

Not sure why UE3-based games would show all that differently: I assume the relative performance levels for Bioshock are indicative of UT3 and Mass Effect as well.

As far as I know the UTIII section in the forums are really active, none the less that alot are complaints but. And over the past 2 months, i've seen a rise in numbers on a CTF server i play on.

I don't think Nvidia want anyone to benchmark UT3 with AA anymore. Funny how none of the quick review of paper launched 9800GTX+ has no benchmark of UT3. IF i remember correctly everyone did benchmarking with UT3 just few months ago and now its not relevant game but a game like lost planet that no plays and was not even tested on ATI card is more relevant benchmark game than UT3.

No wonder Nvidia is happy that everyone benchmark games in 4xAA , look at huge drop for nvidia card soon you go to 8xAA.

Soon ATI will release a fix all Unreal 3.0 game AA computability issue. They solved the issue with UT3, shouldn't be long before they release a fix for all game based on unreal 3.0.

I just ordered the Asus. Most MIR never come back so the 30$ being the biggest rebate was not the motivation. I just picked one which stated the memory speed (notice most of them do not).

And I hate those benchmarks that use AA. I have never ever used AA in my game. When I am getting 200fps without, maybe but I am usually playing under 60fps so why on earth would I enable AA?

Staples you are the exception :) People don't like jaggies, they want their games to look good, not like console garbage.

Not that I advocate buying things from Best Buy as a first choice, but some people have been using the current 25% off Visiontek products to pick the 4850 up locally for $149.99+tax from Best Buy.

Is this in stock at Best Buy? I looked on their website earlier and did not find anything.

Can you blame AMD? It's a smaller than G92 and they are easily making more money than Nvidia at this price point.

Yeah, they played it smart this time. I think a wafer can make like 3x (or something) the number of 4850 chips over G280 chips. They will be making bank even at $170.

I always get MSI cards since they factory-overclock theirs but sell them at the same price as everyone else, and often cheaper after rebate.

I almost bought a used 3870 for $140 a week ago. I would have kicked my self in the butt. I knew the 48xx were on the way but needed a new video card. I got a junker that ran Day of Defeat fine so now I will sell it and get a 4850!

I am going to buy the Asus one as soon as I get paid next friday.

The reason for Asus is the heatsink. Physically it is almost the same as the others, but the image on the sink isnt. There is a hot asian female warrior as an image, and I have a fetish for good looking heatsinks in that sense. ;)

Can't believe this. AMD's lower-end card spanks NVidia's 9800GTX offering like a redheaded stepchild. Nvidia's price drop can't fix that, either. So glad to see real competition out there. AMD way overpaid for ATI, but it looks like the ATI guys are doing everything they can to justify the purchase (and bail out the company to boot). I'm no fanboy, but this is really good to see.

I can't WAIT for the 4870! Looks like I might have to upgrade...

It's actually remarkable as a business issue, IMO. Nvidia's dominance for a while now you would expect to give them dominance in R&D going forward to stay on top.

For AMD to come out from under with such competitive and affordable cards, I have to hand it to them, and we are the beneficiaries of the competition as consumers.

You really think the 4850 spanks the 9800GTX? In most tests I've seen so far, they've mostly been trading shots.

But less heat and less power for the same FPS and even better FPS at high res/aa/af. For the same price, no contest here. 4850 > GTX
