Hello all, do you think getting another 4830 and going CF is worth it with my current CPU? I ask because as many of you know the 4830 will be discontinued now that the 4770 is out and i prefer to buy components new. I will be upgrading to a PII 940 as soon as they drop below $200 CAD. But untill then will my hates to be OC'd kuma be a problem?

Edited to add: Thinking about this because im going to buy a 42" HDTV soon with 1080p res, my one 4830 works fine for 720p but i think it wont be enough for 1080p.

I don't think you have enough horsepower to full utilize the Xfire. I would invest in an X3 720 instead.

I will consider that, if i go PHII though i think ill go all out and go quad with the 940, that said how long do you think the 4830's will be on the market?

But the new generation is getting dangerously close.

If I were you I'd stay away from any upgrade until the new chips (both ATi and NV) are launched.

I thought about waiting for next gen cards, however i already have one 4830. Also DX 10 is not even being fully used yet and there are still DX 9 games coming out and some DX 10 games run better with DX 9 now. I think it might be better to skip the first DX 11 cards and wait for the second wave in a year or a year and a half time. At least that way there will be some DX 11 games out that can use the new cards and ATI/NV will have had time to work the bugs out of the DX 11 cards.

i probably should go PHII i know, but that would just make me want a VC upgrade even worse :) i mean i would just have the opposite problem i have now, now mu CPU is holding me back, if i upgrade then my VC will be holding me back lol, its a never ending cycle.

Get whichever you want to get. Upgrading will never stop as long as you're into modern pc games. Get one upgrade now and get the other later. No matter what, performance will go up by some degree. When you get the other upgrade performance goes up even more.

You play 720p? I would think 4830 would handle that resolution and then some.

Getting 2x 4830 means you can run higher graphic settings and resolutions and still pull better fps. If you only play 720p which 1280x720 no point getting a better gpu. If you want faster frames at this low resolution you might want to get a better CPU.

I think you would benefit from a 2nd 4830. You would probably get better framerate boost from crossfire than you would from a PHII upgrade.
