worth it? For Farcry and doom3?
 
im saying thats the offer I got from someone...Worth trading the Ti4800SE for 5900XT? 😛 I said prices are final cuz some people link up to newegG 😛
 
in HardOCP Doom3 review it shows that you will most likely be able to step up to 1024x768 High Quality with a 5900xt (albeit they used an XP3200+ and 5900ultra with 256mb) from 800x600 Medium Quality of ti4600.

Far Cry - Nvidia - shows that 5900xt delivers playable framerates at 1024x768 when your card will not do more than 44 frames at the lowest resolution.

For the prices you've provided a 5900xt is the best choice no doubt. However, you shouldnt expect it to play games very fast after 1 years time from now. Then again you can always upgrade later. And I am not even mentioning the ridiculous prices of ati products. Also consider that 5900xt will give you increased framerates in all other games. The problem is that Far Cry and Doom 3 are very demanding (but doom 3 is forgiving at the same time). One other importance is the ability of 5900xt to support dx9.0 effects (like heat haze in doom3) and this will surely give you a better looking Half-life 2 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R gaming experience later on, as well as with those 2 games you mentioned.

EDIT: If you get $100 for your old card, spending $83 for 2x the performance in some instances and overall better gaming experience is definately worth it. Most people spent $200-300 when they upgraded from Ti series to 9700Pro/5900xt, etc. You can also think of it like this - even in US, a ti4600 costs about $83 right now, and in theory you are technically getting a 5800xt for the same value (assuming trade in).
 
How are the XFX'S? for overclocking?

I think Ill have a chat with the shop selling these tomm and will probably go for the XT 🙂
 
i dont think you should worry about overclocking too much

Just download CoolBits and then set it to Auto in Nvidia control panel.

Also I think that in games where your card will actually run slow, overclocking it will hardly improve its performance since the gpu's effeciency and lack of bandwidth cannot be overcome. Even if your 5900xt was clocked at 600/1000, it would still be slow due to the limitations of the chip itself. That is why usually new cores/majorly updated cores are introduced because simple clock speed bumps hardly make much difference.
 
im thinking of backing away. No real game I cant really play. Besides, for the coming few months I wont really have time to game, except like maybe on Sunday. Let the Next Gen cards arrive here. 😛
 
its also a bit than 183 last time I checked. $195. Also, selling shop is out of stock. Says hell get more by monday. Lets see how far its accurate and by how much the prices have changed.

An Inno3D 5900XT?

It's pretty common where I live.

Default speeds: 400/700MHz
Memory: Samsung 2.8ns (very rare, not the best) or Hynix 2.8ns, 2.5ns, 2.2ns (these overclock nicely).
Core: the stock cooling is a relatively small HSF with a 40mm fan, it's not loud, but not too effective, either.
Overclocking: the memory OC's well (especially the Hynix), but the core overheats quickly, a lot of people can't get it over 430-440 with stock cooling (of course, the situation can be changed with a better HSF on the GPU.

There are no heatsinks on the memory, you should be able to see the writing on the chips.
