If you're gonna drop $1k on a CPU anyway, then yeah, I'd say the X2 4800+ is a better buy than the FX-55...

Edit: Although I very much agree with the others who said that the 4400+ is a much much better deal overall...only 200MHz slower, but literally half the price...

You can also save the money to buy something really important for the computer, like graphic card or cards (SLI)

AMD 4400+ = $581
AMD 4800+ = $1001
------------------------
Differenct = $420

could buy a 6800 GT :cool:

Man, these are expensive, but Dual Core is the way to Go!:thumbsup:

Whooa ... bit of a price difference, this will be true with the £ aswell :(.

I think that i will still go for a 4800+ becasue the higher end procs have better yeilds, the better procs that come from the FAB will be put on the 4800+ chip, especially being dual core these chips i think are going to be quite sensitive to OCing .. like Zebo i am defo goin to get one of these (4800+ i am feeling rich ) and i intend to hit 3Ghz on both cores aswell :D (wishfull thinking maybe)..

Zebo i think water cooling is the only way to hit this, so looks like more saving for me.

Rich did you see those couple reviews that hit 2.8 with stock voltage and stock HSF? ( the asus board could not change voltage so that's all they had to work with)

I dunno, you may get lucky with an XP120, what I call "poor mans watercooling" and do 3Ghz on air!!!

I beleive it's a real possibility.

And yeah AMD is speed binning. So you'll have a higher propensity to hit 3Ghz with 4800 than 4400, but I can't justify the price premium. I mean even it you get to 3Ghz with yours, and I "only" get to 2800 mhz with mine. You paid 100% more money for maybe 5% more performance. *thats* poor value.

Jesus...I've never paid over $300 for a processor. I would love dual-core for its multitasking abilities, but running a 3.2c already, I wouldn't want to take a "step down" and get the P-D running 2.8. Looks like I have no choice but to wait for the prices to drop on the X2's...I don't really want another Pentium right now.
