I think many people just don't realize that, after a while, you can take in 100g of carbs/day. That's quite a bit. I still can't believe the FDA recommendation is around 400g. No wonder obesity is on the rise.

If you can cut out sugar-filled softdrinks and cereals and cut out snack foods and beer, one can maintain rather well on Atkins. And, of course, staying active and exercising!!

Did you keep your calorie count up or just cut carbs from your existing diet?

Not yet. My wife did find a low-carb bread and some Breyers ice cream ("carb-smart") that has only 4g in a 1/2 cup serving
(it even sorta tastes like normal ice cream!) We found it a Wally-World

I bought some Atkins-brand bread (it's good...esp. when toasted) and bought some ice cream (Slender is the brand? It's GOOD!)

You got the exercising thing right, conjur. I didn't beef out until I started working phone-based tech support. I have been working a "butt-plastered-to-chair" desk job for the past 7 years now (did my waist in big-time!!!!)

We just bought a decent treadmill that I plan on using 20-30 minutes a day (along with some weight lifting) along with the protein diet.

Hope I see some results (both looks and in my blood - I had high choloseterol and triglycerides[sic])

I feel like putting some ice cubes underneath.

Anyway, I had three bananas, three rotis, and icecream. I am feeling so good now. :D

My downfall came on a 3-week trip to Belgium back in..oh...March of '96. All of that fabulous dark, heavy beer, steaks, and vending machine lunch/snacks during our days at the plant while working cost me 15lbs of extra weight! I came home and had to buy all new pants! :Q

Deskjob of programming and no more exercising pushed me up another pant size and I was darn near needing another jump this year but finally said enough is enough!! Now that I have my allergies under control, I plan on starting back to my jogging in the mornings this week and next weekend I'll have my home gym setup (had my nephew and his wife living w/me and I haven't had room to set it up but I had to push them out this weekend - they'll get the rest of their stuff next weekend)

Love having the extra energy and I'm eating way more healthily on Atkins than I did before.

Diets are BS. Eat what you want. Run 1 mile every day or two, do sets of ~20 pushups and ~30 situps. I've been losing weight doing that and I eat lots of junk, a large percent of which are carbs. I can't give you numbers, because I don't watch that but I can give you pants sizes ;).

Just the molds...but...living in the Ohio Valley is killer. Worst place on earth for allergies. I know several people who've moved here from out of state and within 6 mos. they're on prescription meds or getting allergy shots. Ohio Valley Crud Syndrome.

If you're ever down this way...1st coupla rounds of  are on me! :D

75 pounds less than when I started. ;) And about 90 more than I will when I get done. :D

Not everybody's metabolism is the same. How old are you? If I ate what I wanted and did that small amount of exercising I wouldn't be losing weight.

And, as I've said earlier, Atkins is not a diet...it's an entire change in one's habits...permanently. Think of it as a vegetarian diet with meat added in!

(We also want to get to cedar point sometime :) )

Take your pick!!

When I was growing up, we'd hit Barren River State Park a lot (it was only about 1 1/2 - 2 hrs from home) (it's ESE of Glasgow). And there's always Cumberland, Dale Hollow and then the Red River Gorge area.

The reason most people have problems on Atkins is because they don't do everything right. You can't starve yourself just because you don't like whats on the diet, and you can't stop drinking sodas etc without replacing them with something else (water). Otherwise you end up with problems like many people are. The diet does work ok if you do it right, but if you dont eat enough and you don't have enough fluid intake it can definitely cause problems.

Add me to the list of Atkins success stories... 42 lbs gone, about 15 more to go. :)

My problem that I have right now is that I'm not unhappy at 175lbs... Hence, my motivation isn't what it used to be. I do keep my carbs low enough (~60/day) so that I don't gain weight, but I need to either up my activity or lower them a little more to get down to 160lbs. But like I said... I'm just not as motivated at 175lbs, as I was at 217lbs.

Quick question, is ground beef ok for Atkins?

Also, if you have craving for carbs, eat low carb bars like Atkins Endulge, Advantage or Carbolite Chocolate bars. They are so fvcking good.

Is there anything in the "crunchy snack" department other than nuts and PORK RINDS???!!!! (a.k.a. fried pork skins)

I eat ground beef a couple of times a week. Can't go by w/o my own special hamburger patties!!

And, for crunchiness....a few carrots? Handful of Cheezits (probably the daily allowance there!)

Those Atkins bars are good but they get $$ after a while...and eating more than 2 and you're on the crapper for a while!!

I fell off the wagon this weekend.

Saturday I had a hamburger, fries, mountain dew and peach cobbler for dinner.

Today, I drank 2 hefty glasses of milk and then went to olive garden (never ending pasta bowl, cokes, and cake again)

....Guess it'll be doubletime at the gym for the next week....

I cheat quiet frequently with my Atkins diet.

Yesterday I had a chicken burrito, potato wedges, diet coke, 5 turkey rolls, and Pringles.

I always drink at least one diet soda a day.

19. Before I started running, no matter how little I ate, nothing happened.

Not really.
Atkins really works for people.. It is just not for me :(

By BS, I meant they aren't needed, not that they don't work. Obviously if you're overweight enough that you can't really run enough to burn calories something like that would be warranted, but if you just want to lose a few pounds... avoiding good food vs. get a little exercise... I'd rather go for a run than not eat bread.

What's wrong with someone who chooses Atkins as a way "to lose a few pounds"? By calling it "BS", it implies that people shouldn't do it.

While I'm very glad that it works for you, there's no way that I could "eat what I want" and lose weight... No matter how much I exercise.
