I thought order of operations was supposed to be taught in grade school.

I was never taught the left to right deal, always that M comes before D. Not saying I'm right, just saying.

Have you never ever heard of 'Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally'?

Those were the order of operations I was taught.

Division is multiplication by the inverse. This problem is 48*0.5*(9+3).

I approve of this thread. 288 is the obvious answer. Downies don't know order of operations and how they apply when not handwritten.
