I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that a 128-bit card is consistently beating the 256-bit 4830 in benchmarks, even given the higher clocks. I haven't been following the video card releases lately, but has memory bandwidth become less of an issue than it used to be?

The bandwidth isn't that much different: http://www.gpureview.com/show_...hp?card1=612&card2=586 (57.6GB/s vs. 51.2GB/s) however the GPU on the 4770 is much more powerful, so it seems to more than make up the performance deficit created by the lower memory bandwidth. At stock clocks for both cards, I believe you'll see the HD 4830 might close the gap at higher resolutions which will be more RAM-bandwidth dependent. All in all though, ATI just went about a different (and cheaper) way of creating similar bandwidth.

I didn't see any 4770's with a true HDMI output with audio?
I don't want to use that dongle thing.
Anyone find one?

Looks like they are all the same board at this point.

Does the adapter make a difference? Rethenex at avsforum who put together an HTPC guide has often recommended the HIS 4670 for HDMI out even though it has an adapter.

I disagree azn but you do make a good point. This card is for people who won't want to pay the high prices of 300+ for good graphic performance. Shit i was blown away by how good this card is without crossfire. Adding crossfire just sweetens the deal.

Some people look at this card and see "Budget". I look at it and see opportunity. As soon as i saw the specs on this card i knew it was going in my system. Why? Simple. Price. Some people run GTX 285s with Dual core Amd's. I'd much rather run a budget GPU with a high end processor.

Why? Surely not because you'd expect a high end cpu to actually make up for whatever performance a budget gpu lacks. Because that's just not how reality works.

I decided a sticky for this thread was no longer needed.

However people are welcome to keep responding to it, and doing so bumps it to the top like a regular topic.

Any reviews include the HD3870?

This is terrible. I want a card with the reference exhaust cooler!
Yeah, ATi's one looks much better than the third party ones.

Thanks BFG, it does look like a worthwhile update to a 3870. I think I'll wait about a month or so to see if pricing changes.

Heh, I broke down and got the HD4850 instead. 🙂 oh well.

What do you guys think about this one from XFX.
looks much nicer than the stock cooler, doesn't it

Well, I order one today, hope the cooler is not loud.

That xfx isnt bad but I really prefer the rectangular shaped coolers like from the gts250, gtx260. OCD. 🙁

these dual slots are nice, but tends to be louder.

Anyone else notice NewEgg's supply is basically GONE? I wonder if that means a new version (possibly like the reviewer samples) is on the horizon. That would be sweet for a Memorial Day Weekend sale!

Hi, long time reader, first time poster. Just have a quick question. Whatever happened with the hd4750. Isn't that a slightly lower end version of the 4770 that was supposed to come out around the same time? I haven't heard much about it since the release of the 4770. Would probably get the 4770 anyway but was just wondering...
