I just installed Win2K Pro about 2 and a half weeks ago and already have 470 megabyte user profile :Q. Is it normal for relatively new, clean installation? I do not have any profiles set other than administrator. I did slipstream SP2 to the install disk, though I doubt that might be the cause. I'm using NTFS for both of my hard drives.

My system specs:

P4 1.6A

Asus P4B266-C Intel MoBo

Crucial 256 DDR Ram

Visiontek TI200 Video

WD HD 40 gig ATA 100

WD HD 30 gig ATA 100

SB Live 5.1

I would also check the size of your IE cache, I've seen IE just let it grow practically infinitely.

Do you have lots of stuff in your My Documents folder? In NT-based Windowses the My Documents folder belongs into a user profile, so anything in that folder shows in the profile size immediately.

I set IE cache to clear when closing the browser.

Documents and Settings folder is 567 MB in size but I don't see files which are over 8 MB

You have to be able to find a util to tell you the size of a directory. I've always used du, in Linux or cygwin.

You can always right click, properties on a folder. That will tell you the size of the directory with all subdirs. Make sure you have hidden files on.

Sounds like your system may have placed a "user.dmp" on your system. It is usually placed in the "all users" Profile.

empty your internet cache folder, then move it to somewhere else on your hd; then drop you ie cache to a reasonalbe size (thier is no reason to have a cache bigger than 25mb).

I have 2 user.dmp files on my system, but the total size for both of them is 32 MB.

I always set IE cache to 15 MB and as I already mentioned in my previous post, the browser is set to clear cache when closed.

I keep all my files on my desktop, so my user directory is HUGE. clear your temporary internet files (especially if you view a lot of.... material ;))
