47 Ronin Yes/No?

No... 1998 Ronin, Yes.
Still one of my favorite movies. Believe it or not I actually once met a guy who said he didn't like it. What a total failure of a person he was.

Rottentomatoes hates 47 ronin, currently at 14%.

I'm not sure keanu has been in anything good since Matrix, and it probably would have been better without him. He's really quite a terrible screen presence, even in awesome movies like Point Break. Somebody needs to just ban him from acting.

I was interested until they started showing all the supernatural powers and stuff. Same with the Hercules movie, but at least that is based on him being the son of Zeus and is somewhat in alignment with the myth.

Will save 47 Ronin for Redbox, and maybe see Hercules in the theatre as I am highly interested in any movie dealing with the Greek/Roman/Mycenaean era and wars.

The only way I would go see this movie is if Keanu Reeves wore a Keanu Reeves mask so that you could be sure that he was going for the "I can't express emotion as an actor" type of character.

I think de Niro and pals in the movie were Ronin themselves. Masterless spies so to speak. And just what was in the case? I think it was a nuke.

I own the DVD and I should watch it again. Best of my spy movie collection. Patriot Games is by far the best though.

I think you miss the point. There was no case. Okay there was "a" case. But what was in it, was probably useless. Probably a piece of electronics encrypted and a bunch of buzz was created to make everyone want it. If anyone managed to decrypt it, the game was over.
DeNiro wasn't operating alone. It appears "the man in the wheelchair" was probably was CIA, diplomat, something. His friend that met him was later revealed to be DeNiro's partner or handler.
The case was meant to be lost from the beginning. It's only purpose of existence was to get Seamus.

Presumably, since Seamus was rogue IRA or Sinn Fien, the British/Irish helped point Seamus towards the case.

I am still reeling from the worse keanu movie ever "man of tai chi" so I will most likely wait for the Netflix version and watch this during my 30 min workout days.

Do not watch man of tai chi, you have been warned.

Funny, those parts, like the girl in the flowing dress that turns into a Chinese-style dragon; thought that looked pretty cool.

I would not want to watch a straight remake of the movie, which certainly would not measure up with Keanu, but another take on it... worth a rent.

I just saw it. Wasn't bad, not epic, watchable. Special effects were good except for one part of the story....you be the judge. Story was a bit slow and somewhat thrown together.

So KeaNO or KeaYES?

I am going to watch it when it hits DVD.

Runner Runner got really crappy reviews, but the movie was great rental IMHO.

From Japan Today:

Review: Reeves comes off bogus in 'Ronin'

In Japan, the story of the 47 ronin is so central to the country’s national identity that a special word exists for the act of retelling it: Chushingura. But despite this long tradition of flexible reinterpretation, the Hollywood-backed “47 Ronin” takes such liberties with the underlying legend that a different term comes to mind, one better suited to American actor Keanu Reeves’ involvement: “bogus.”

Haven't seen the film yet. But I'm familiar with the story.

If you're interested, you can download a pair of free MP3 that tell the story. The first ten or so minutes are background but if you're interested in Japanese culture at all, it's a great story.

LOL

It's a FICTIONAL MOVIE.

If the real story was played today people would be pissed how long and how it had not epic fight scenes.

just saw it, it was missing a certain something to make it epic, but it was a good popcorn flick, any movie with neo in it is not going for an oscar 😀

Man of Tai chi was bad but is worth watching for the Scenes with Yue Hoi.

If Yue had been healthy his whole life he would have been a much bigger star than the dozen or so movies he plays a master in.

probably the fastest Mantis master of the last century. Guy was AMAZING. His scenes in Man of Tai chi and his performance in the Yang Luchan movie is definately worth watching.

I am a bit sceptical of this film but it sure beats watching the Joy luck club with the wife and slitting my wrists...
