yep, in the 1998 Ronin movie the old man actually tells De Niro of this story when hes recovering after being shot

I think de Niro and pals in the movie were Ronin themselves. Masterless spies so to speak. And just what was in the case? I think it was a nuke.

I own the DVD and I should watch it again. Best of my spy movie collection. Patriot Games is by far the best though.
