47 Degrees C is a good temperature, right?

I received my Gc68 in the mail today, and i proceeded to install. After the install, i noticed that my system was quieter, but not drastically quiet. What i found out was that all the other case fans were adding to the noise problem. I then decided to unplug the rest of the fans besides the cpu fan and the powersuppy fan of course. Upon turning on the computer, i was AMAZED at how quiet my system was, as i was using the Delta Screamer + all the case fans before. Sooo, after a quake 3 session, MBM reported 47 celsius on my 8k7a+ motherboard, and i'm running a 1.4Tbird at stock speed. It's now at 44, and i'm sure it'll drop a little more, but this should be fine for athlons right?

Cool, thanks for the reassurance. But i wonder, if i get Panaflos, how much more sound would they add to this now-quiet computer, hehe?

Bleh, and i forgot to add- I couldn't find Arctic Silver when installing this heatsink, so i had to settle with EEEK.....the silicone paste... :disgust:

My temperatures have been 48-55 deg C cpu, 23-27 deg C motherboard for the past 2 years. On hot days under high load my computer would heat up to 78 degrees C.

Still no damage and no problems with freezing or anything.. I'm using stock cooling on a pentium3 600E @ 840. I'm using 50 cent white thermal paste I found at radio shack and it hasn't dried up. :)

btw, this is using Asus Probe version 2.11

Personally I have nothing against the cheap thermal paste as there's not a significant difference between it and pricey arctic silver.

Hey if it works... then great I just saved me $10 or more.

i was running a Athlon 1.2b in a micro ATX case with a cheap fan, temperatures would get up to 58c CPU & 45 case, but be about 49 CPU 40 case.

but when i installed my 1700XP in that case the system would shut down when pushing it, coz of over heating, so got a bigger case, installed 2 systems fans (one front & back) & got a big CPU fan ($30)

but now the 1700XP runs about the same temperatures as my Tbird did (in the small case etc), even though all that

well the case is around 37 but CPU sits on 50

it must just be that much hotter

welcome dave the quarter back, heh..

Yeah I don't think athlon XPs like being in micro cases without fans.

My Gosh. I have an Athlon 1.4 with an SK-6 and a 5000 rpm 60mm fan (Thermaltake). I can hardly EVER get my temps down below 40. They mostly stay 44-49. Isn't that rediculous? The 1.4's are just way to hot.

Uhoh.... The heatsink gods shun you!!!

Actually, it is ok to you silicone paste if you are not planning on overclocking. 47c is a fine temperature. Man, that GC-68 sure is quiet huh.

i think that is high for an SK-6...are you over clocked? good airflow?

full load i am around 42-43....around 38 idle

lebe0024,

That depends on your ambient case temps and motherboard type, among other conditions.... if you've got a 35C case tmep, and a warmer reading MB, then 49C isn't very hot... Ambient temp is left out of almost all temp discussions, which is a major mistake (then again, so is leaving out the motherboard).

WA261,

Depends on lebe's ambient temps, etc...

Or maybe....<taking a stab in there dark here> you have excessive dust buildup in that SK6 of yours...I see that pretty often around here.

Hell-o !

After modifing my case "a bit", my XP1700 works at 40-41° full load,
and 35-36° idle
But that is XP, old Athlons are hotter !

I have Volcano 5 heatsink and Sunon 80mm fan on it. On the front
of the case i have three 80mm fans blowing inside, directly towards
processor, and two on the rear, blowing the air out, all in midi tower :)

My athlon XP 1600+ (1.4 GHz) is running at 1533 MHz right now, with only a OCZ Gladiator with a quiet power cooler fan to cool it. I found this link to be very helpful with temps: Guide to reduce idle temps. Before I did this tweak my cpu would idle at around 43 degrees celsius, getting up to 49 at full load. Now it's idling at 36, 9 degrees cooler, and all it took was a few minutes to tweak my registers :)

I've got a Soyo Drago Plus with XP 2000+ as well. It's running about 47C at idle. 50 or so at load, so far.

I have an XP1800+ in a Lian Li PC-60 case with a Phatty Alpha PAL 8045 and an Enermax 80mm fan on that. I get about 48-50C on idle and 53C on load. My case has 2 80mm ADDA fans in the front and one 80mm ADDA in the back, with an Enermanx PWS fan directly above the CPU as well. Topped off by some AS3. My case temp is stable at 35C.

I would think that my temps would be lower... Maybe its cause I don't have my CPU fan set to its highest speed (its adjustable from 1000 to 3000 rpm). I should try to up the CPU fan speed some and see if that helps it out. Anyone else have an Athlon XP with the Alpha 8045?
Does my CPU temp seem a bit high to you too? LMK what you think...

Thanks.

Episolon00,

What motherboard are you using?

If anything, your *higher* temps are probably caused by the 35C case tmep....
