460 GTX fail?

Hi

While I was gaming my computer froze and then shut itself down.
Now I cant start Windows 7 64b in normal mode, only safe.
When I power on my computer the messed up BIOS screen appears and after that if I try to start Win in normal mode the same sequence of events as indicated by the pictures happens.

I tried starting Win both without Nvidia drivers and with new ones, it did not work. I also set the Power Options to High performance. Nothing
worked.
Im also providing a Blue screen viewer screen shot.

Hm, not good. Have you tried blowing the dust out of your GPU lately? Did you recently install new Nvidia drivers?

Do you have another video card to test out, or do you have an IGP?

I did not try blowing the dust out. I can try that and test the GPU temp if there is an app for it and it might help u help me. Pre crash I did not install the NVIDIA drivers recently, windows update might have. I can do some additional diagnostics if you have any.
The MB has an integrated card, should I try using it instead? If so would it be sufficient to just unplug the power cord from the GTX or I would have to take the card off the MB?

Why am I able to start Win in Safe mode, is it not using the GTX?

Safe mode is not using the drivers.

Try using a program like Driver Sweeper to get rid of the Nvidia drivers and see if you can boot into Windows normally. If that works, install the latest WHQL drivers from Nvidia's website and see if the error comes back.

Has your computer always had those green dots on the POST screen?



That is not a good sign and is usually indicative of a graphics card (hardware) issue.

I would try another card if possible. Or iGPU like 96FireBird mentionned if you have one.

The Green dots and 0x116 BSOD indicates bad things, maybe hardware failure, especially since the green dots are during the POST.

Sounds like a corrupted Windows Installation maybe.

Take the video card out of the computer, and besides blowing out dust in the card AND computer, reseating it may help. Doing this will eliminate two possible problems: 1- the monitor cord being loose and causing a faulty connection (not likely), and 2 - physically reinstalling the graphics card into the PCIe slot makes sure a new connection is free of any dust that could have gotten in between the card and the slot.

Yep. Btw, why hasn't anyone brought up the PSU yet? If the PSU is underpowered, and may be "fading", this might be the result.

Card = Toast. Even if the card wasn't getting fed enough juice from the PSU it shouldn't have those artifacts during POST. Time for a new graphics card op.

Visual corruption in the BIOS like that basically indicates a hardware failure, usually VRAM. RMA it.

If it's out of warranty, you could try baking it.

Don't even need another card, just use igp.
