I think it's unlikely that it's soldered to the bottom of the board, maybe it was just stuck there when being assembled? Have you dismounted the board to verify it's actually soldered?

It doesn't look like there's enough room between the board and the case for an IDE connector to be stuck under there which is why I think it's actually been soldered. I can't really pull the mobo out because it's a proprietary setup.

When I got it the adapter was plugged into the 2nd IDE header, and the first one was occupied by flash ram. So maybe the ribbon cable wraps around and is soldered to the pins under the first header where the flash ram used to be, and I just need a 40 pin to 44 pin cable to run from there to the drive... I dunno.
