Edit: Ouch...thanks for the link timco...looks like MS is cutting out some stuff I need and want...looks like I'll be looking at Whistler Pro or Win2000 Pro.

If you have any insight on Whistler Pro vs Win2000 Pro, please visit my new thread. Thanks for the help folks!

I don't know how many users have used both....but I'm just looking for some info.

Win ME added a lot of features I really don't like...things that I would call "Dumb End User features" not trying to be offensive....but crap like hiding system files, that horrid System Restore...just that kind of junk....

Will Whistler Personal be loaded up with this junk? Or can you disable it all?

I run a single CPU...I use my computer for lots of stuff.
Gaming, DVDs, Desktop Apps (Word,IE,Email,ICQ,etc), Programming...

Assuming I don't want a second CPU will Whistler Professional offer me anything Personal won't? Also does personal and/or professional have those silly kind of "save-my-system" features like WinME? And can you turn it off (in Both? inEither?)?

I dunno how much info is floating around about Whistler Personal vs Whistler Pro, vs Win2000Pro...but any info would be much appreciated..

Edit: Also...I heard Whistler personal has a "legacy emulation" mode or something like that incase older stuff doesn't run quite right on the NT core....will Professional have that as well?

Nobody really knows exactly what the difference between Personal and Pro will be. I'm sure M$ will reveal that in good time. Typically, their "Pro" products are useful to developers and business-folk, are thus priced higher. Time will tell.

Windows 2000 already includes most of the "dumb user" features that you mentioned. Thus, I strongly suspect that Whistler will foist them on us, too.

Indeed.

I suppose I'll just have to wait and see...does anyone have any idea when we'll see more Whistler details?

Try here.

It says (amongst other things) that Whistler Personal is to be provided as an UPDATE (my caps) for W98/Me users only. Which makes me think it'll suck big time as I've read lots of posts on here and other places about problems in Windows when you put one version over the top of another. If I get Whistler (assuming I've not bought a G4 or switched completely to Linux), I'd probably wind up getting the Professional version...

Well...I have the Win98SE Upgrade Edition, you can still do a clean install of it, just before it starts copying files you have to stick your Win95 CD in the drive for 30 seconds....

You don't have to install the upgrade version from the other OS...just have to prove you have a qualifying upgrade product.
