I'm simply wondering if one is able to use a faster K6-2 chip on a board that doesn't officially support a higher clock speed, namely a K6-2 550. It only supports 450, but I know the multiplier would work.... would it need a BIOS update? Can't find it on the site if so.

The board in question is an AOpen AX59 Pro. Good board, just a little quirky at times but I want to put it to good use. So, should I buy a 450 or 550? Don't want to waste an extra... what, $10 if it won't work? (lol) Yeah, I'm a poor college student. oh well.

Thanks for the help,
Rich

This board can support K6 up to 600Mhz (it has multipliers up to 6). You can get newer BIOS from here. Most efficent processor for this board would be K6-III,2+ or 3+. Those are considerably faster than "usual" K6-2's even when running lower clock speed.

OK, thanks! I wasn't sure because it wasn't explicitly stated on their page there. Take care!

Thanks again,
