I recently installed o&o defrag Pro and did a disk defragmentation and 45 GB disappeared. I have no idea where they went to. I went into Windows disk defragmenter and almost all of my hard drive was fragmented where the free space is supposed to be. I started off with about 47 GB, and when it was done I only had 2 GB.I'm running Windows XP on a Dell 4600 with a ntfs hard drive. I would really appreciate the help.

Did you try... Start > Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Managment > (left side) Storage > Disk Management... it should show you all available disk drives, and where the gb's go... hopefully it should say in there what happened to your 45gb's... maybe in Unpartitioned Space, i think. If it doesnt help, please reply.

In case you decide to attempt to recover this data, you can use one of these tools.
I am not familiar with o&o defrag Pro, do not even know what it means. It seems unlikely the data just disappeared and I wonder if this is a situation of user error. I have not heard of a disk defragmenter application just deleting data. This is odd. Is it possible to explain the situation better?

1) R-Studio
2) GetDataBack
3) Ontrack's Easy Recovery Pro
4) Quetek
5) File Scavenger
6) HDD Regenerator

I prefer GetDataBack.

This is extremely confusing. Can you provide more information? What is o&o defrag Pro? Can you access your files through File Explorer (My Computer)? Windows XP requires between 4-6GB and your system is showing only 2GB? Can you uninstall that program, open the Disk Defragmenter under System Tools that is provided with WinXP (assuming that is your OS), and then Analyze your partition? Maybe Defragmenting with the OS provided Disk Defragmenter will recover those lost 45GB of data. If all else fails, try going back to a previous restore point.

If you still have problems, could you please provide a screenshot of the analyzed partition with Disk Defragmenter?

I'm trying to use photobucket.com to display a picture of my disk defragmenter, but I can't figure out how to upload the picture. I tried doing system restore, but that did not work.I'm running disk defragmenter right now to see if that will work.I do not know how to analyze my partitions.

Have you uninstalled that o&o defrag Pro program?
Does the WinXP defragmentation utility appear to show your 45GB of data?

GetDataBack recovered all the files off of a 250GB exteral drive for me. My system had crashed during a file transfer, which somehow messed up the partition table. took awhile, but GetDataBack came to the rescue. Give it a try.
