Either way, how can anyone possibly talk on the phone that much? I actually dislike talking on the phone and get annoyed if conversations become "personal". I use the phone for business (not necessarily work, but for meeting times, information, etc), not pleasure.

I agree 100%. It's like they're attention whores. Ooooh, looky at me, I'm cool, I'm talking to someone. What the hell I don't understand is when someone is with couple other buddies, and one of them is constantly on the cell phone, first off why the hell are you out with your other buddies if you are just going to be on the frickin phone the whole time. Second, just go frickin pick up the person you are talking to and hang out with them if you don't want to be with your other buddies.

Fortunately it's my sisters cell phone bill, not mine.

Upgraded her T-Mobile plan to
$59.99 1,000 anytime weekday PEAK minutes
$2.99 UNLIMITED weekday OFFPEAK (evening) minutes
$10.00 UNLIMITED text messaging and T-Mobile to T-Mobile minutes
=========================================================
$72.98 per month plus taxes/fees/charges

How the heck can she send and receive 121 text messages in 1 month?

I find sending text messages too tedious.

sending text messages is as easy as sending an email, for t-mobile its your phone number @tmobile.com or something like that

I just don't understand the whole appeal of text messaging.

It seems very tedious typing out messages, even if they are brief and in short hand via a cell phone.

I'd rather chat online via AIM/MSN but that's not as portable as a cell phone.
Its easy, it isn't tedius if you can type well. You can talk to people like you would AIM, only you can do it any time, not just when you both are online. Much easier for short convos than calling them, and much easier for talking to more than one person at a time. Plus, how else can you talk to people in class, at work, or other places where you can't really talk?

Err 99% of the time, extended phone conversations held by guys are with girls. You will rarely see a guy having a phone conversation with another guy lasting more than 2 minutes. Most of the time I get a lot of minutes on my phone because of 15 second guy conversations that get rounded up.

Yes, it's called pre-paid cellular! Use up your minutes and your phone stops working until you
go to 7-11 and buy another card....

My mom and sister use Virgin Mobile pre paid. It works well for them because it is a cheap solution if you don't use tons of minutes.

Good question and you're right.

She doesn't want an annual contract, so they charge $2.99/mo for nighttime minutes.

Otherwise if she agreed to an annual contract it would be free.

121? You're joking, right? I'm up to 997 so far this month...I had my Ericsson T68 from Jan '02-Nov '02 and it logged 23,000 sent and received messages. The problem is, you guys don't know how to type on your phone. I can type almost as fast on there as I can on a keyboard, probably faster than the average person types on a keyboard. And those little keyboards, like on the Sidekick? No way, I type much faster on the phone pad.

I have gone through about 900 messages before on an 8290...not that hard. Predictive text has sped up my typing a lot. I used to have unlimited text messaging from Cingular for free, but they took that away and replaced it with 300 messages/month.

I made the same mistake and learned a really big lesson from it... $750. Not happy at all...was going to try to get out of it...but realized that it was totally my fault...so I payed and have been more careful about that stuff ever since.
