Would be nice if someone can quantify it like 50-100mhz, ~150mhz, etc.
Thanks
Thanks

I'm not sure what he's talking about, but the real-world difference is nil if you plan to overclock. Leaving them at stock, you'll see a 2-5% increase, not more. Certain apps like 3d programs might see as high as 10%, but imo it won't warrant the $100 extra. Go with the 4200+ and overclock it. Manchester chips, due to their smaller die and power needs, should overclock much better than their Toledo counterparts. 🙂 2.6GHz should be an easy reach, and will give you the equivalent of an X2 5000+. 😀

Why the 4200+ over the 3800+? does it overclock higher (how much higher?)?

Since the 4200+ starts off 200MHz higher, and has an 11x multiplier versus the 3800+'s 10x multi, it'll allow for higher clocks. Usually the 4200+ gets around 2.7 max, while the 3800+ maxes between 2.4-2.5. 🙂

both overclocked no where near the level of my 4400+
also, they (the 4200+) ran hotter than the 4400+ for some odd reason. maybe i didnt mount them correctly, but two incorrect mounts? i duno...

My next X2 will be the 3800+ as soon as I sell my Last XP chip. Then the whole house will be 64/x2/opteron.(13 boxes)

all chips are different.. In theory the 4400+ SHOULD oc lower than the 4200+ because of the extra cache.

that is true... in theory but a lot of the earlier san diego chips overclocked as well as or even better than their venice counter part even with the extra cache...
the SD in my sig has been the highest clocking chip i've ever owned (clocked on air/water)... and i've gone through my share of chips
