42 Seti@home Workunits done in 30 Minutes?

My Seti@home was at 104 WUs done in 1330hr 43min. Now I am at 146 WUs in 1331 Hr 15min
my email is eueda@vadept.com if you want to look it up.

Has anyone else had something like this happen to them?
It made my avg time/WU drop drastically a d its good for TA so I'm happy 🙂

This is probably a symptom of too much overclocking, try backing down 50MHz or so and see if it works right. 🙂 It has happened before.

After DanC convinced me to overclock I decided to try it. What the harm in running seti@home like this?
I'm at 155 unites total done for the day now.

What do you think the problem is? My computer is stable at 950.(celeron 633 100mhz fsb)
running 3.03 screensaver.

I cannot figure out what is wrong. Not that I'm complaining. I assume it doesn't mess up the Seti WUs that much because of the redundancy that they have but I would like to fix this problem.

Hi SlangNRox, The times you listed shows how many hours of processing you have done for the work units submitted. The delta is 200 hrs. So, 42 WU's in 200 hours is 4hrs 45 min per WU. That is a reasonable time for CLI version 3.0. But, it is almost half you overall Average CPU time
per work unit of 8 hr 32 min 05.4 sec. So, what CPU do you have? And, did it really take 30 mins to do 42 WU's?

SlangNRox: You added a bit more while I was typing the above info. So, Turn down your FSB! This has happened others, but not ofter.

We had this happen to Chinman a few months ago, it was caused by the over-overclocking of his P3 as I recall. Apparently the SETI program will throw out the WU if it gets corrupted, and this is what was happening. With the goal of SETI being science, it's desirable to do *valid* work units, so try backing off your overclock a little and see if the client starts completing them in the "normal" fashion. 🙂

Were you running the same clients on both of those computers? Your C633 should be faster than your PII 300 for sure, since the PII 300 also has a 66 MHz FSB.

in addition to overclocking, the problem could also be caused by faulty ram. like people have suggested, try slowing the computer down a bit, and if that doesn't work, try changing your ram.

Your system isn't 100% stable or it wouldn't be corrupting the wu's. From what I've seen the majority of the time it's the ram being pushed too far that has caused these problems. You might try lowering your memory timings & see if the problem is still there.

Your celery should be faster than a P2-300. My Celery 300a @ 375mhz is faster than my P2-350.🙂

you know, the possibility exists that the client found evidence of a signal in the first few moments of processing, and flagged this WU for further analysis...

Elvis is alive!!!

Don't you have any FSB speeds between 66 & 100MHz?
I once had a string of WU's from 1 PC doing them in under 10 mins! ,it turned out to be defective RAM as a few days after I asked him to stop doing SETI it died totally!.

I put my memory timing at 3,3,3 and I still get this problem. Guess it just wasn't meant to be. quake 3 loops seem to work fine. time to fire up 3d mark 200.

hummm...Didn't anyone read JW's post? Last I checked, 1130 hrs-1331 hrs = 201 hrs. This equates to 4.78 hrs per wu. Resonable for a P3@950.

i saw that and did the calculations myself... but assumed that someone else had more info about it. although going from ~10 hrs/wu to ~5 hrs/wu is still pretty drastic.

I guess I mistyped my original post. It should have been from 13xx hrs not 11xx hrs.
Well I'm now running at 83? mhz fsb and seti is working normally. To bad I only have 66, 75, 82, and 100+ as my options. Need to get a mb with softmenu 3 on it.

Hopefully I'll be able to get some seti WUs done now. Just wanted to try to contribute some since just brought a p166 online doing rc5

Cool 🙂 ,glad to have you crunching again 😀 ,let us know what WU times you get on your Cel.

BTW haven't you been with TA SETI for along time? (looking for a little history! 😉
