If your only using it as a TV then it wont matter that its not 1080p, you wont notice a difference, but if you are using it as a HTPC monitor then yeah you would most certainly want 1080p.

720P is certainly okay for a monitor.

The panel's native resolution is 1366x768. Remember that it's perfectly possible to get work done running 1024x768, and this just gives extra room on the sides.

My 15" LCD was 1024x768. Scaling that to 42" just doesn't work. Sorry, but 1080p would be the minimum I would want for one of these.

The 1080p model has been $800 ish (pre-tax, including coupons &c.) off and on at bestbuy.

mm yes, you would notice a difference if it were 1080. I'm not usually even picky about sound/video quality but can easily see a difference.
