Costco is offering the new Vizio 42" 1080p, model VS42LF, for $949.00 after a $150 off coupon from their Passport Coupon book. This offer was mailed out to all Costco primary card holders and I have seen these coupons on ebay as well for those that did not receive the books. They currently are selling the older model VU42LF for $1049.99 after a $50 Mfg instant rebate. The VS42LF will not be available to buy, according to a sales person in store, until Monday February 11th.

Comparing the specs of the 2 tv's only differences I see are:

-The contrast ratio which may be misleading since on the VU it says 1500:1 but does say typical but on the VS it says 1000:1 (typical).
-The VS has a 1920 x 1080 PC support where as the VU only had 1366 x 768
-It comes with an HDMI cable.
-The Bezel over the speakers is a bronze on the VS and silver on the VU
-The VU has a backlit remote and the VS does not.

Spec's on the TV:

High resolution, 1920 x 1080 resolution
No Bright Pixel Defects - Guaranteed
HDMI Cable Included
Cleaning Cloth Included

Ideal in bright-light environments - minimal glare

Digital HDTV & standard TV combination tuner

The Sceptre Costco just had for $899 was a better buy.
Beside the specs, its better just for the fact that the Vizio has the non-matching speakers that aren't detachable.

I personally have no need for detachable speakers. I also thought the Vizio picture looked way better than the Sceptre.

First, you must be in the minority because most people will either want the speakers to be detachable or unoticeable.
Vizio keep putting these big ole silver and now gold speakers with an all black bezel and it just ugly. No way around it, its ugly.

Second, how could you possibly be objective and say the Vizio picture is better.
I was just at the Costco the other day and they didn't have the new Vizio model out yet.
Even if you did catch the new model at Costco, they don't have the Sceptre on display.
So you couldn't possibly see the 2 TVs together.
The only possible way you could have seen the 2 TVs is the Vizio at Costco and the Sceptre some where else so you couldn't be objective about it.
If you notice my post, I never said the Spectre had better pictures, just better specs.

So to clarify my reply:

1) To be honest I was using the VU model as the comparison model to the Sceptre as I have seen these side by side in my own house and ended up returning the Sceptre as picture quality was most important to my purchase.
2) I never said you thought the picture was better. I was adding in my opinion on the picture quality.
3) I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder because I have the silver bezeled VU and I don't mind it at all. Though I don't really like the bronze bezel as I saw it yesterday in Costco in the steel.

I looked at the vizio site... does it really look like that with the gray and black alternating bezel?

Yeah I looked at it but I really wanted 1080p.

Crimson,
There is a silver (on the VU, bronze on the VS) bezel over the speakers. My entertainment center is black and silver so it matches perfectly which is why I have no issue with it.

The speaker thing is strange. On their 42" 1080i LCD (about a year ago) they were detachable. I wonder why they abandoned that idea. Can the speakers be used as a center speaker?
