The best part about this deal is that you can take the CPU out, put it in your own computer and overclock it to 3.2GHz no problem :D

Any more details on this deal? The lowest I could make a Dimension 2300 go with those specs is $608.00.

cheers,

Do not get the 2300 if you plan on doing any gaming on it. There is no AGP port in it. But for a basic pc, it's not bad.

EDIT: BTW, every 2300 ad I've seen shows them shipping with only SDRAM. I'm not sure if you can even use DDR in one.

I just got one of these for one of my users. It is a decent little everyday system for the price. I wouldn't use it for games or video editing, but for an office environment it is great.

Of course, the first thing you have to do is reformat and put on 2000 or XP Pro.

this machine is severly crippled by the lack of DDR or RAMBUS.....just a thought

These are good machines if you want something quiet, reliable, good tech support and reasonably fast but as others have said this is crippled by the slow memory (SDRAM) and lack of AGP port among other things.

If you're a gamer, do 3D work, CAD, etc. then look else where ... if you want something to surf the web, do e-mail, chat, some light games then this is perfect for you.

well....all i know is this

at the lan party i went to this weekend, the kid next to me had one of these....i was impressed at first when he told me it was a p4 1.8; said his dad bought 6 for his buisness and got em for about 300 apiece

then i saw ut2k3 on it

he had the resolution at the lowest possible setting (320xsomething i think) all textures and shadowing turned all the way down or disabled, and he couldn't have been getting more than 5 frames per second

UT didn't even look good on it

for the price, it's still a pretty good deal i supossed, but it's VERY sluggish for a 1.8Ghz machine

-my too sense

I work on Dell systems for a living, this system runs at about the same speed as a 1Ghz p3 with 128 sdram or a 950 Mhz Athlon with sdram. pretty slow. for the money, probably worth $400 if it is new.

Errr..... it isn't the CPU that is holding you back for gaming, it's the video card. Pop an acceptable video card (PCI mind you) in this badboy and you'll have yourself a downright spiffy gaming box.

Severly? Can you definite your definition of severly? I'd say you'll see a 5-10% drop in performance using SDRAM versus DDR. As far as running office apps, I doubt you'll see any delay.
