My lite-on 24x cdrw decided it was time to die so I went ahead and bought a lite-on 40x cdrw. What is the approximate time it should take to burn a full cd? Just for the heck of it I burned a copy of my nascar 2002 cd. It took about 3 minutes to make the image and about 4 to burn it. Seems a little slow.
DMA is enabled, burner is master on seconday IDE w/no slave. I was using clone cd also. Not sure what else to check???
BTW this is on an 8kha+, XP1600, win2K w/sp2.

i just got the 40X liteon. to copy a cd it took me a little less than 3 minutes or maybe 3 minutes and a few seconds. but when i burn music cd , it takes an average time of 3:25 or even less sometimes. i use 16X imation CD-rs which is realy not doing a great job. i get bad copies sometimes dueto speed incombatibillity. but it also depends on your setup and your powersupply ,voltages (not like i can control it) , IDE drives you copy from and such. so it shouldnt take over 4 minutes. by the way, what kinda CD-R do you use? cuz my imation 16X is not cuttin it for the 40X but it did cut it for the 24X.

the 40x does not really burn much faster than the 24x. dun ask me how... i read it somewhere. i don't deny it is faster... but not by much. with the low prices of the 24x burners... i would stick with them. and using 16x media while trying to burn at 40x would be a no-no 😛

There's NO way you guys are burning edge to edge under 3 minutes... you should be closer to 4 minutes (a little under). I know the 40X Plextor will do edge to edge burns closer to 3.5 minutes NO WAY can you burn under 3 minutes!

Remember, no 40X burner is a true 40X burner... the same can be said for 32X and most 24X burners. The new "high speed" burners achieve their top rated speed at the outter edge of the CD-ROM. So if you're not burning a full CD, then you really won't see any improvement over your 24X burner.

<< spanky, with the amount of posts you posted on this forum , i wouldnt say that 😛 >>

wouldn't say what?

master i burnt a music CD in 3:04 minutes with lite on and nero 5.5.5.7 and i copied a cd in 2:50 minutes no joke.

spanky, dont say they dont burn by much 🙂 they do my a WHOLE MINUTE!

are u copying cd's that have reached full capacity? i've heard the 40x cdrw's copy faster by seconds... in the 20-30 second range. if it copies faster by a minute, that's not so bad i guess. but when i look at the prices for the 40x vs the 24x... and the burn times, i feel the 24x is more apealing.

i will tell you what i am running.
win2k on 1 gig kt7a-raid and 384 MB of ram. Antec 400 PSU

i read my CD from also a lite on DVD 48X.
