The results for local Transfer was 103Mb , but have noticed these results fluctuate between 2 tests. another thing , When i monitored my drives during transfer , they show a Spike transfers rather then full capacity during the entire transfer, From my first post to now , i upgraded Dell firmware , installed Fan on Dell perc 6i and thats about it

Hi Ashrafi,

I have a newly installed win2008 x64 server with same Gigabyte GA-H55-UD3h motherboard. I use Adaptec 1430SA raid controller at the 2nd PCIE connector (it's an x4 card).

For me the local transfer (between 2 raid array or external USB HDD) is fast, but the network copy is slow - max. 20Mbit/sec in a 100Mbit/sec network - if I want to write a big file from another computer to the server. (from client c: -> //server/d$)

But it's strange, and please test it:
if I controlled this copy from the server (I starting the copy at the server from //client/c$ -> server d: ) the transfer rate 100Mbit/sec, and it's fast like I want! It's same when the cliens is windows or linux...

Can you test it?

I have build a media Server with following specifications,
Gigabyte GA-H55-UD3h motherboard
Processor i5 680
8 Gb Ram 1333Mhz (4*2gb)
Dell Perc 6i Raid Card
Chenbro Expander
20 * 2Tb Western Digital Caviar Green in Raid 6 configuration

I have set Intellipark to 300secs as discussed on some forums , After installing Server 2008 R2 I transferred 3.4Tb data on the raid setup and it took 3 days . (The maximum speed reached is 30Mbps).I have set the cache block size to 512mb . I believe the speed if extremely slow , I made sure the raid card was installed in the x16 pcie slot , I might be missing something , how can I increase the performance of this media server or is it bottle neck due to hardware itself.
