Citroen upgraded its C8 minivan with a new diesel engine that can gets 40 miles per gallon. The 8-passenger vehicle can use up to 30 percent biodiesel. Unfortunately its only available for the European market.

Priced at the equivalent of $34,000, it's not cheap, but considering that you would save about $1,000 a year in fuel costs over a standard SUV (averaging about 22 mpg). With the new cleaner diesel fuel that's out, you don't have to worry about the smell.

If someone (are you listening DaimlerChrylser and VW?) brought a diesel minivan or station wagon to the U.S., I bet they would find a willing public looking for a powerful hybrid alternative that can fit a family and their belongings.

I highly doubt it.

The United States does hate diesel for some reason. Even though biodiesel is the solution to our problems IMO.

VW *does* have a diesel wagon(s) over here. And the market for them is isnane at the moment.

But we aren't talking high volumes though. Diesel vehicles probably account for 10% or less of VW's allocations in the US. It artificially increases the demand since there are not a lot of them out there in the first place.

Yeah biodiesel is the shiz. They converted some of the buses at my university to run on biodiesel. You can easily tell the difference: the biodiesel ones don't spew black clouds, the engines are still loud, but don't sound like a dying jet engine, they don't stink to hell, and may even be more peppy than the regular diesels (just on the old butt dyno tho).
