I just read this in a circular with my Sunday paper: Radio Shack item # is 16-3275. $249.99 regular price with two $50 rebates from ReplayTV = $149.99.

They also have two other units - an 80 hour for $349.99 with a $50 rebate (item 16-3276) and a 160 hour for $499.99 with a $50 rebate (item 16-3277).

Monthly service charge also applies - $9.95 a month or $250 lifetime subscription.

Does anyone have any opinions on this deal? Is the ReplayTV the same/better/worse than Tivo? I am thinking about buying this, but would like to hear from those that know something about the differences, etc. before I buy one.

I would appreciate any feedback!

I wish I had jumped on the Refurb ReplayTV with lifetime subscription.

It's my understanding that some people even received NEW ReplayTV units.

I just noticed the thread for the refurb ReplayTV, and I clicked on the link for the unit. It is still active, so if you want to jump on it - jump on it!!

For me, my problem is having all that cash up front. I have a Radio Shack card so I would be able to spread the payments out. The end result would be a new unit for $70 more than the refurb deal. Not too bad considering, eh?

Damn I wish it were dead, my cc can't take anymore of this.

Maybe I could eBay my original ReplayTV 3060 (30 hours) with FREE LIFETIME subscription, wonder how much it would get.

Wow, 160 hours now, that is pretty impressive. I just have one question, since these use hard drives that may go bad after three years, can you get them replaced? I am asking this question because buying a lifetime membership may not be worth it is the thing breaks in less than two years.

I wonder, do you have to pay for the service, I guess all it is is a glorified TVguide of some type? I wonder if you can set channel/time to record manually and all that good stuff?

Since the unit contains a built in ethernet port, I would just hook it up to my network, and then when the 60GB gets filled, just dump the data to my system. :)

Actually, it comes out to $99 (AR/MSN)

add 250 for lifetime subscription and you are home free for $349 (the 'refurbs' are $341 shipped) - do the math

As they say, if you don't pay for the service, all you've got is an expensive doorstop. It doesn't work without the service.

I don't know if that's true. The early reports from some were that they were obviously pre-owned, and I've seen other reports that they ->looked<- new, but the manuals still show use, accessories may or may not be wrapped and that the serial#s have been changed.

Also, everybody seems to be getting them in plain bloxes, which also might indicate refurbishedness.

Good thread. I was looking for a good deal on one. I just ordered it, but it is out of stock online. And, I tried six B&Ms before I found one that had it for instore pickup. I'll grab it tonight and hopefully get the service started before the price goes up. Thanks guys!
