well, i bought a new cooler for my BFG 6800GT OC which would reach 85c degrees under load, but i read this is pretty normal for 6800GT's so it didnt really alarm me. I finally decided to buy an accelero x1 after reading good reviews for it and cause it's dead silent. After installing it, w/ AS5, my max temps are now 45c degree under load!!!!!!!!!!

i was NOT expecting that much of a drop, albeit some reviews did claim a 30c+ degrees drop but i didnt believe em at all. Just goes to show u how crap stock cooling is.

btw i literally had to check if the fan is working cause it is so dead silent. the loudest thing in my sys now is my hdd!!! (using a big typhoon on my cpu and a 120mm exhaust fan) also, the massive drop in gpu temps also dropped my cpu temps by 6 degrees.:)

Ooof! 85 degrees under load? I don't blame you for wanting to swap out the stock HSF. You never had any stability problems at those temps?

Congrats on your purchase. Sounds like it was a good investment.

The accelero doesn't exhaust the air does it? Wonder why your CPU temps dropped so much.

PS: I love my AC Sliencer.

nope doesnt exhaust the air, but im guessing my cpu temps dropped cause there is'nt 85 degree temps just below it.:)

The gpu ambient temps are the same as my gpu temps now, whereas before they were about 20c degrees below it. i guess it reflects the acceleros failure to exhaust the air.:(

creig, nope it was stable, but could'nt overclock it any further than the stock speeds.:( i'm hoping that'll change now. Mind u, i read that 85 under load was normal for the 6800gts/ultras

Im willing to bet the stock cooling on your 6800GT was clogged up with dust ,this happened to me and after cleaning it out my temps dropped from 89C under load to 55C load.

nope, i already cleaned my stock heatsink before w/ spray, my case is'nt that dusty. Maybe it got full / dust again, but i'm looking @ it now and it doesnt have that much dust.:(

as to where i purchased it, well, im currently living in Tokyo, Japan, so i just went on over to Electronic City (Akihabara) and the Accelero X1 & 2 are all over the place. they should get to NA soon enough though.:)

If that's an AGP card, the BFG AGP 6800GTs have crap stock coolers, worse than the reference ones. I used to have one of those and it also went past 80 regularly on load, and was quite loud as well due to the two small, high RPM fans. That's an amazing drop in temperatures though.

Newegg finally carries them. I just placed my order. I had a NV Silencer that I returned because I want to SLI and my SLI slots are too close together (Abit AN8 SLI) to fit 2 NV Silencers. Arctic Cooling said I will have no problems with 2 Acceleros.

Installed my Accelero a few weeks ago. Performs about the same as the NV Silencer did for me. But is MUCH quieter....I'd say inaudible with the case side panel closed.
