401k rollover recommendations

i have a little over 6k in my 401k from my previous employer (i didn't put much in, just enough to cover the match) and i don't really want to roll it into my new employer's plans (either 403b or 457b).

where have you all rolled over your 401k to? i'm probably going to do the roth IRA. i looked up vanguard, and then i looked up t.rowe price, and then i got a huge headache and didn't want to read anymore.

i probably won't change whatever i'm invested in a lot - i never changed the funds with my old 401k. the only thing i'm going to do differently is probably be a lot more agressive with my investments - putting more of my money in stocks. how about fiedlity? i ideally want something with low fees and little hassle.

Vanguard has many good stock index mutual funds, both domestic and foreign.

If you're making enough to have a non-sheltered / regular brokerage account, you can save a little on taxes by investing in large-cap funds in that account (such as an S&P 500 fund like VFINX) while investing in small-cap and foreign funds in your IRAs.

Fidelity Spartan 500 Index (FSMKX) 0.10% Expense Ratio
Fidelity Spartan Total Market Index (FSTMX) 0.10% Expense Ratio
Fidelity Spartan International Index (FSIIX) 0.10% Expense Ratio

Vanguard 500 Index (VFINX) 0.18% Expense Ratio
Vanguard Total Stock Mkt Idx (VTSMX) 0.19% Expense Ratio
Vanguard Total Intl Stock Index (VGTSX) 0.32% Expense Ratio

Vanguard Target Retirement 2050 Fund (VFIFX) 0.21% Expense Ratio

Either of the top 2 funds in each group listed above and the 3rd fund could represent the core or majority holdings of your retirement portfolio. The Fidelity Spartan funds require $10k, Vanguard Index funds levy $10 for accounts under $10k. At $6k and your desire for low fees and little hassles, a Vanguard T.R. fund such as listed would be appropriate for you. That or a simliar T.R. fund from another low expense ratio no load mutual fund family. T.Rowe Price Retirement funds have higher Expense Ratio but have more aggressive holdings.
