Its only small difference, get the Allied 450W. I bought mines local, it was only $5 difference. The 450W has some very stable voltages, its perfect for overclocking. Currently is powering my Epox 8RDA, XP2100@2.36GHZ, 512mb samsung, 2x80gb HD's, liteon dvd/cdrw. Stable as a rock!

the allied true power 450W is a GREAT psu...

what are you basing your comments upon? just because it's "antec" doesnt make it great...

ANYWAY...

true power allied 450W = 41 bucks at newegg.com... it has a combined 3.3 and 5 volt rail of 230W which is more than enough for o/c-ing a 1700+ at high speeds...

what makes the allied such a great psu is that the 3.3 and 5 volt rails UNDER LOAD DO NOT FLUCTUATE BY MORE THAN ~1%!!!!!

as compared to the standard that makes a decent psu ~5% fluctuation..

now tell me again... how is he making a mistake????

Exactly, me and three other friends are perfectly happy with our Allied 450W.

Allied is a marketing company, they don't actually make anything. They have it made with their labels, very common in the computer parts biz. I've never dealt with their 450w models, but I've seen several of their 300w models, all dead, all made by Deer. These weren't in enthusiast boxes, just basic computer owners who were happy until, one day, they tried to boot up and all they got was a loud bang and puff of smoke. These boxes were all about 1-1/2 to 2 yrs old, and when the psu popped, it didn't go peacefully- it took other components with it, depending.

Sometimes things change, maybe Deer is making better stuff, or maybe Allied is buying them from somebody else. One thing hasn't changed, though, they're too inexpensive to be very high quality. So you may get over for a while, particularly considering very few boxes actually draw 175w.

I like stuff I can trust, and as far as I'm concerned, Allied doesn't sell it. This is stuff you can trust-

Along with the Antecs and a few others. The Fortron is particularly beefy.

There old stuff has sucked, but there new stuff is top notch. My Allied 300W (1.5 year old) replaced an Enermax 300W that wasn't strong enough to power a Shuttle KT266A + 1ghz tbird rig. Now that very Allied 300W is strong enough to power my KT3 ultra, XP1700@1.86ghz, Radeon 9500 softmodded, and 2 hard drives. No stablitity problems whatsoever.

Thumps up for Allied.

BTW I own both Allied True 300W/450W. The Allied 450W for $40 will give you the same or even better performance than the two you have listed, period.

Dunno about that, Human2K. Try HTTP://Deer-Group.com, you'll see that Allied is an authorized name of their product line.

Might also refer to the recent roundup at Tomshardware, where 2 rebadged/refanned Fortrons and a Heroichi took top honors. Down- fanning and rebadging is common with the fortrons, they're one of the few that will take it. PCP&C, Nexus, Zalman and SilenX are examples.

Fortron/Source (Sparkle) has been widely regarded as some of the best for many years- their stuff delivers, and lasts. With the exception of the rare deal, you get what you pay for with power supplies, IME, and it's not a good place to pinch pennies.

The need for high current psu's in greatly overstated among the enthusiast crowd, anyway, and I'd personally be a lot more comfortable spending $41 on a 350w Fortron or Heroichi.

To each their own, however. Time will tell, right?

A high quality (Antec, Enermax) lower wattage PSU will always beat a lower quality (Generic, etc...) high wattage PSU.

The Allied 400/450-watt is a high quality power supply. Just because they don't overcharge like some of the other so-called name brands. I had a Antec 400-watt that lasted for one year and died. I thought it was a great power supply, but my Allied 450-watt has stronger and more stable voltages, runs much cooler, and has a much heavier physical construction. It is an overkill for my 1700+@2300MHz, I am completely confident the 400-watt version would be more than enough. A name brand 400/450 watt might be able to compare in performance, but why pay more? And I don't care what the specifications say, a name brand 300/350-watt will not compare.
