400gb IDE storage parts hit the shelves....

What's surprising though is that it still has the 8MB cache.

I'd like to know if that's 100GB x 4 or 133GB x 3.

The other one Newegg carries in the 7200.8 line is 300GB, so it's almost certainly 100GBx4. I'll have to see if I can find a spec sheet....

7200.8 product line page

It doesn't say, unfortunately.

Found this and it seems legit. It says 133GB per platter:

That also answers my 16MB cache question.

 to the newegg price!

It's sad when I can walk into a retail shop and get it cheaper.

I don't think these are nearly as scarce as say x800 xt-pe's or 6800U's but whatever.

I'm told these models have three 133GB platters.

There is no real performance gain going to a 16MB cache probably because the optimisations necessary to get the performance increase aren't ready for both firmware, controller commands, and operating system file handling.

Cheers!

Is it me, or is hard drive technology moving REALLY slow? Nonetheless, 400GB is pretty good. I'll take four for a >1TB RAID5 array. 🙂
