4000+ oc'd to 2.5ghz but SAME results on 3dmark05

interesting observation....ran 3dmark05 after oc'ing my cpu up to 2.5ghz (from 2.4 stock) and i received the absolute same results as prior (non-oc'd) tests.

what gives?

core voltage at 1.5, HTT at 4x, pci 100, dram on auto......forget what else....

hmmmmm....results were 7900 (approx) each go.....running nvidia 7.77 drivers....

First of all, this is a very minor overclock, 100 mHz really isn't that much. The thing you need to remember is that 3dMark05 is all about video card power, almost all of your score comes from the video card. An increase in 100mHz is probably within the normal range of error for 3dmark05(scores can be slightly different each time you test.)

I have read that unlike 3DMark01 and 03, 05 is not so processor speed dependant and is designed to measure graphics performance only. Try overclocking your GTX instead or see what result you achieve in 01 and 03.

thank you for the response, Joe. by the way, should my HTT multiplier be set at 5x and not 4x? is 7900 a respectable score given the system specs?

thanks Gronich. is the card oc'd via a software application or via the bios? my old ati radeon card came with software, not sure about this card.

You can't really OC any video card by just going into the bios, you would have to flash it, but thats only with a x800 pro>x800xt
DL either rivatuner or coolbits, coolbits is alot easier to use, but riva has alot more options.

I agree with the other guys. I get a 150-200 point gain going from stock (2.2GHz) to 2.85GHz. 3DMark05 really likes GPU power.

Your score looks fine by the way. If you really care, you can gain 100-200 points putting your settings in your Nvidia control panel down to lowest possible. You're probably running graphics settings at default, which is Quality. Switch to High Performance and enable all optimizations.

3d mark 05 is a measure of your GPU, not your CPU. If you want to measure the increase in CPU power use 3dmark01. that will give you a guage on your CPU increase.
